LOL well that is always possible. The internet and porn are huge. However, we seem to be leading away from the main question. Most kids, if not all will discover masturbation whether we tell them about it or not. No one told me or my friends. They will also discover porn on the internet and if they are so inclined, forums such as this one. I hope they dont read my posts HAHA
my wife has talked about it with our daughter after she accidentally walked in on her. just told her not to be embarassed and everybody does it, but to maybe lock ther door in future.
I never actually broached the subject with my daughter, although I knew she masturbated as a young teen. Not really my business. She certainly never asked me anything about it. Our only real discussion on the subject was when she walked in on me mid twiddle. She was 15 at the time. She didn't see any flesh, just an active hand under the bedclothes. She just mumbled something and disappeared to her room. The following discussion wasn't so much about it (twiddling) as along the lines of parents are people as well as being Mum, and what I was doing was normal .... blah, blah blah and that it's an activity usually done in private. End of discussion: never mentioned again. That was 8 years ago.
Whilst in previous generations it was not only a taboo subject, but considered as being a mortal sin & threatened with eternal damnation of fire & brimstone if they were to even think about it, hence all the stories about hairy palms, going blind, etc., resulting in totally screwing with the kids' minds. However, I think that due to more enlightened times & as a result of improved sex education in schools more & more parents are beginning to feel more at ease discussing the matter with their children, and consequentially, these children are more comfortable when talking to their own children about the subject, and so it continues through the generations.
