well i don't quite see how simming what's wrong with it deliberately is going to unsuck it. that's what i find inadiquite in the forced focus of rpgs as we know them today. smart, tecnosavi, intellegent people, mostly deliberately living in small forest villages, connected by narrow gauge noncombustion propelled railways. i mean learning how to live with real nature and finding the gratifications of creating and exploring by and while doing so and finding ways people can do this. ways they can be happy with. a world of realistic tomarows when the oil, coal and uranium are gone, or people are just no longer willing to do things on so austentatious a scale as is involved in extracting them, nor any longer able to survive without being more consciencous of their environment then most people are today. that's the kind of things i'm interested in simming. not what boils down, however you dress it up, to glorifying armed robbery. to naming some race or life form or just otherness in general, monsterous to get away with it. i mean that IS just all over again the same kind of way that IS screwing up and keeping screwed up the world we've got now. that idea that there has to be an us and them, and that by killing, maiming, robbing 'them' we're somehow doing something wonderful and good and heroic. i mean its that kind of thing, that dominates rpg'ing, that's the whole problem with how people are looking at things that IS keeping everything screwed up. so i'm looking for something that is genuinely completely different. and not implemented lamely to try and 'prove' that it only can be either. i've really yet to find or see anything that comes all that close. all i'm seeing is this same romantacizing of what's screwed up, only dressed up in some fanatasy of some past era or parallel fantasy universe. and don't try to tell my that's "human nature". human brainwashing maybe. =^^= .../\...
Summer of Solstice and Fiesta. Both are good visually and surprisingly demanding. I have an up-to-date system and it gave it (sort of) a run for its money. With hundreds of character models displayed I did see framerate lag.
http://ikariam.org/ Not an mmorpg but it can be a fun little micromanagement/pseudo-strategy browser game.
