considering all the money it has racked in from the tourists i wouldn't call it useless at all ..wouldn't mind having one in my back yard
Well, did we learn French? Growing up in the woods of central Quebec, if you spoke English you got a good smack to the back of your head. just kidding of course, but people were sort of against the English. I didn't start speaking English 'til I was five and moved closer to Ontario.
I went to a French first language school in elementary school, then I went to an all english high school. I wished I had stayed at the French high school, but it was too far away. French rocks.
Growing up in BC it was pretty much useless and I wish we had had more language electives (spanish was cool, i would have liked german or japanese or something - i went to a pretty small school). But now that I'm out in NB, I see why it's actually useful in school... everybody out here is bilingual, it's ridiculous. But it's handy when traveling to Europe... I did get the grammar bashed into my head enough to be able to pick up the basics when I travel. Good stuff.
I took french from grades 6-12 and I loved it. I'm always one to learn anything and everything I can that intrests me. It was hard at first asking the grade 6 teacher over and over "comment dit-ton....?". But by the time I got to grade 12 it was so natural, almost as natural as english. I graduated with an intermediate certificate I think. I don't know french is a beautiful language. I want to learn spanish next. Thatd be wicked.
