I can't afford to buy all organic produce and food at this time in my life. Being a college student makes you poor..lol..one day I'll be able to eat better. I have a juicer, so I try to drink a juice a couple times a week. Some of the fruits/veggies are organic, but most are not simply because of the price, which sucks big time. :(

i kno this isnt a debate about vegetarians/vegans but this^ is crazy to me (not drinkin some type of oj cuz it contains a vitamin that comes from animals). i can understand the not eating meat thing, but jeez, that has to make every meal plain horrible, like u have to dissect your food before eatin anything. can u ever eat out with pple?

Hmm I think we have incompatable definitions of debate, but never mind ...

I personally think eating dead animals, and the 'justification' people come up with for it (not to mention putting random unnecessary chemicals into fruit juice in the first place), is pretty crazy, but there you go. All a matter of perspective.

We all make choices when it comes to food ... those with allergies choose not to eat what sickens them, Jews keep kosher, dieters pass on fatty foods, vegans avoid products which necessitated the harming of animals. It's all the same in the grand scheme of things.

If you are going to make a choice to put the welfare of non-humans above your own taste, well then you start to realise just how wide spread the problem is along with the simple ways to live by your principles. In that sense there really isn't no diffrence between meat, rennet, gelatine or any other byproduct of animal slaughter. That does mean we're all 100% pure but everyone does what they can, and that's rather commendable in a world of ignorant unsympathetic souls.

I really do pity those people, the ones who are obviously so uneducate about nutrition and the simple joys of eating food which doesn't contain animals. It must surely put a damper on meals to feel that consuming vegetables is a burden, because you'd rather get your latest fix of animal products (cows milk contains a concentration of chemicals designed specifically to in effect get the calf addicted to their mother's milk so they stay close, as a survival issue ... for humans cheese is particularly potent in these chemicals).

It's not difficult, once you educate yourself and get into good eating habits to enjoy vegetarian food. You probably do like some already, just haven't realised. The only reason most meat dishes are appealing is due to the seasonings and accompaniments, and of course you can use those when cooking other foods. It's not about deprivation, it's merely making diffrent choices.

Yes I do indeed read labels, and check for the 'suitable for vegetarians' symbol. Living in Britain we're quite fortunate to have that, other people have to trawl the whole ingredient list. Even then it just becomes habit, like tyeing your shoes. Then if a food turns out not to be veg*an, oh well there's bound to be something suitable on offer.
Obviously when cooking your own food you know what's going into it, so that's fine. I mean how can you cook and not know what the ingredients are?

Of course we can eat out. There is a huge world out there full of plant based foods if you bother to look for it. Most resturants are more than capable/willing to accomidate dietary needs, even if you do need to phone ahead (same for an omni with allergies I guess). If if you do just turn up there will always be a vegetarian dish, and perhaps a vegan one too. I've travelled around much of Europe and the Carribean without having any real problems.

I use to think the same thing not too long ago. :)

Actually my meals are very enjoyable. I usually prepare meals with fresh food so I know there is nothing extra added. Meals with fresh food are so much better than anything processed.

I can eat out with people. :) I am a bit less picky then, though I don't usually eat out anyway. One, I find meals at home much more enjoyable, flavorful, and healthy. Two, meals prepared at home are cheaper. Three, I have hermit tendencies. :)
