fruitarians are right cuase you vegans think your good cause you dont kill animals but yet arent plants also living? dont they breathe and play a part in our environment? so killing them is basically like killing an animal is it not? plants go through torture in their own way. Sprayed with chemicals and such affects and harms the plant then the day comes around and you murder it without consent? so in reality theres not much of a difference between vegans like you and meat eaters like me
lolol i know what you mean tamee..... im on the 2nd day of a fast right now that started after i feasted on a whole lotta stuff i probably shouldnt have... though i did give in last night and have a mango and some peanuts... i dont even feel the desire for food though really, seems to dull your senses and awareness, and my body doesnt seem to be craving anything at all except water.... and yeah dude sorry, there is a world of difference between a meat eater and a vegan, lol.... i am a very concious consumer and dont just buy anything that doesnt have animals or animal byproduct in it, i think a lot of vegans are like me too because they then discover organic products and develop an interest in their food i think, once they stop eating all the conventional shit they were eating before....and if you did not harvest a plant, would it not 'die' anyway?
what a lot of bollocks, i am a vegan because of harm-avoidance. if i can can live healthily without causing suffering then thats what i beleive it is right to do. plants however do not have the capacity to process or register higher nervous impulses, such as the feeling of pain or suffering, and therefore choosing to avoid consumption of plants or plant matter for moral or ethical reasons is a fruitless excersize (pun intended) and in my oppinion absurd. but hey, who the fuck am i to judge?
It's not about causing suffering to plants. It's about respecting all life equally, regardless of if it has a central nervous system. You wouldn't step on a flower if you could avoid it, right? It's not because you think the flower will scream in pain; it's because you respect the beauty of a flower. Some people view all plants as beautiful flowers. Cool! Hey, it can't hurt to try it for a few days. You'll know right away if it feels right for you. And you can reward yourself with chocolate (chocolate is a bean, right?)
space duck: "You wouldn't step on a flower if you could avoid it, right?" yeah of course not, but thats because by stepping on that flower i have nothing to gain, it is damaging without purpose. by eating plants i am gaining nutrients (obviously) as well as enjoyment. but doing it without hurting anything
I can buy that. Your argument is really quite Buddhist. They say the cycles of life and death irrelevant as long as we minimize the suffering we cause. I don't completely agree, but hey it worked for Buddha.
i would definatley make the switch from meat-eater to fruitarian very gradually. i would stop eatin meat right away, but right to raw foods and fruits, not likely its gonna stick......
GO TAMEE!! Last year some guy in London sealed himself in a glass box w/ nothing but water for 50 days, just to prove it can be done. A disciplined human being is an amazing thing.
Fruitarian makes sense when you think about what is really natural. Im not a fruitarian, but i am a raw foodist. Id give it a try and see how my body likes it though
this is honestly a whole new concept to me... how difficult is it to balance your diet...or is it pretty simple? Would orange juice containing calcium be considered "fruitarian"? I'm not trying to be offensive, I'm just honestly new to this and want to know more... If you can, please send me to a link that would load me up with info. Thanks
I thought the main part of being a fruitarian is that you don't pick or kill things. You don't just have to eat fruit and nuts etc, like vegans. Instead, you wait for them to die naturally and then you're free to eat them, e.f you can eat roadkill and fruit that's fallen off the trees etc etc...
hmm interesting.. it would be hard for me to do.. lol being vegan is hard enough .. but i enjoy it too much to give it up.. i think i would always feel hungry if i didnt eat what i eat now
Hey A+O, it all depends on your reasons. Some people do it for health alone. Others do it because, like fountains_of_nay said, they don't want to kill/harm things. If your reason is the latter, I'd suggest researching the philosophy of Jainism. It's a belief that's been around for 3000 years and teaches respect for all living things. Yah, the strict Jains don't even harvest fruit in the traditional way. They lay blankets under trees to collect the fruits that drop naturally. Pretty cool. That's how I intend to run my mango plantation in Sri Lanka someday. But dietwise, it's a close cousin of veganism & raw foodism. If you just want to learn about the diet, try http://www.fruitarian.com It's sorta "out there", though. It's one of those sites with LOTS OF CAPITAL LETTERS. And exclamation points!!!!!! (I smell propaganda) lol but it's worth a read. I think the best way to approach it is what feels comfortable for you. Maybe you can start by just eating more fresh fruit, and then go where your body tells you.
Okay thank you, I'll check it out even though it sounds a little obnoxious [the site, that is] lol I'm up for trying anything... if I like it, I'll stick with it... if not, it doesn't hurt trying it out
