Christmas is a time of year where we are supposed to be thankful that we are not like those homeless people l-foote encounter. Were supposed to help them in any way we can, yes green even if it involves giving them coffee. Christmas and Thanksgiving are almost the same holiday to me, but instead we get presents on Christmas. Everyone is so caught up in what everyone else portrays this holiday to be. Well guess what? WHO CARES what others think, they have nothing to do with you. Come up with your own POSITIVE meaning for christmas if thats what makes you do something good for this world 1 day of the friggen year.

 

I used to see it in only this light as well. I dont know your stance on God but I am going to assume (and please, correct me if I am wrong here) that you are an atheist? I hate to make assumptions but this is what I feel.
But let me put it to you in another light, maybe you can try and view it through these means.
I believe in God, and I love and look up to Jesus the Christ with all of my heart. Am I a Christian? Not even close. Church and assembling of the masses who barely understand one word of Christ's message doesnt appeal to me, neither does mindless recitation of what is called 'prayer' and neither does mindless religous ritual practiced out of fear.
HOWEVER, for some people in this world, this is all they at present can conceive of God and Love, and for some people the word's of Christ have helped them to find love in their hearts and to make better descisions. Believe me, I am not blind to the evil machine that the Christian religion has evolved into. I know how evil it truly is. But if one person, just one, finds love in their heart and is able to let go of their ego and embrace the reality of forgivness and brotherhood, by means of Christ teaching, then His message was fulfilled and its purpose gathered and utilized.
I celebrate Christmas by reading the new testament of John, giving my son a few worthwhile presents, and feeling the love that grows in the hearts of the people who truly care for one another.
Even if its just one day a year that people think of other's instead of themselves, and even if it by means of a religion and organization that I dont agree with, it is better than nothing and in the West, all that we have.
I hope you find happiness and acceptance this Christmas and if you dont agree with me thats ok, we are all different. But it is the ability to love someone despite the differences that makes a real man.

i also hate xmas with a passion. spend all fuckin day with family that wont even talk to me unless they've had enough to drink. who gives a fuck about presents and shit, evry year i get asked if i want anything and theres nothing i want, im not materialistic like the rest of my family.

being materialistic is not a bad thing, becoming addicted or rellying on it too much is. i dunno some of my possesions entertain me or make me happy, without them my life would be boring. on nice days outside if fun, during rain and cold pc and tv and video games can be extremely enjoyful.

 

You try and go against our marketing culture, you're just spitting against the wind. People are going to play old Bing Crosby records for the first three weeks of December, and go on shopping sprees, no matter what you do. People are going to trot out pumpkins and big pictures of skeletons for the last two weeks of October whether you like it or not. Same at Easter.

If you are authentic, and your friends as well, and if you can hang loose for three weeks, there's no problem.

You know I used to feel super negative about it too...and obviously I still dont like when I see pure straight up materialism....but I just figure I should take every chance to celebrate, fuck those who do it for materialism, im not going to worry about how they choose to spend their time

 

im not going against the marketing culture, that would be foolish. i just feel sick to my stomach every time a christmas related commercial comes on the television, especially a retail store, its disgusting how shameless they are. i mean they seem to suggest that your kid will hate you forever if you dont buy them the rediculously expensive gadget on their wish list. idk maybe its because i used to work retail, or maybe its because i come from a poor family that has always been struggling and will be for a long time.

like i never understood that movie "jingle all the way" you know, with the govinator? like he really thought that his kid would actually hate him if he didnt get him an action figure? thats gay, maybe its cause i hate selfish spoiled brats (maybe thats why i broke up with brittany?). im too grateful for what i get i guess.

oh and as for my "religious" beliefs? its complicated. worthy of a new thread. but not tonight cuz i feel lazy

 

I think that there are many things to loathe and love about {the holidays}. it is the spirit of {the holidays} that makes {people} ....
yeah, my problem isn't with the holidays, its with the "correctness" of it. I dont like the materialism, and thats why my son is only going to recieve one present from santa every year. and it will be something the elves could actually make, blocks, a wooden train. not a fucking ipod. santa didnt go to college. HE MAKES TOYS! he gives them away! its a not for profit organization! he cant afford to pay elves to go to school and get electronics degrees!

I love christmas. Its one of my favorite holidays. I love waking up christmas morning and seeing all the presents under the tree with lights everywhere and stuff like that. I actually could care less about presents, i just like the wrapping and all the decorations people do.

why is it that you are saying that you hate christmas because of corporations??? sure alot more companies in alot of different areas sell alot of crap during this season but what about other holidays?? like halloween, easter, valentines day and the other holidays that i cant think of right now. each one of them holidays the candy companies make so much money. what about all of the cards that get sent that them times(also christmas and new years) i think that the candy and card companies make so much money from around every holiday not just christmas. theres alot of companies that make alot more money off other holidays then just christmas. chirstmas is just good for business in general for everyone because everyone wants to spend money their family and friends.
