I have sales people do to me what the OP said. One guy at a car parts place obstructed me as well as the customer before and after me just to jerk people around to gratify his ego. So, I know it wasn't anything I did. The behavior is the opposite of a sales person. I could see the frustration on the faces of the other customers.

I found the district manager on the web and complained about it. The behavior of the sales guy changed for the better after that.

I've watched at least three retail places in my area go out of business the past year. And all three of them had at least one sales person jerking the customer around. Some 'workers' today have no respect for their own job or the company, even in the middle of a deep recession.
