That's a hero in my mind. Wow, it almost makes me tear up... He doesn't even look that "damaged" in this picture.
They really didn't help your friend though, if he now has brain damage...his life is still in a way, ruined. All they did was lock the guy up that did it, so he can't do the same shit again until he's on parole or out of jail. Your friend is still retarded (your words, not mine), and that isn't going to change because the cops went and found this guy. My friend brought up the idea that cops should be like paramedics and firefighters, and only work on an 'on-call' basis. Rather than patrolling the streets, waiting for you to do something wrong, they have to chill at the station and play basketball until a real crime happens. This seems much more logical to me, than giving out tickets for stupid things like j-walking, spitting on sidewalks and driving over the far-too-slow speed limits.
That's one of my best friends and the cop that put the guy away who beat him up. I've known him since grade 3. It's really hard to see him like this now..
the police do good things because in a straight-laced society, most police would be considered good people. more liberal people, who take part in nonviolent crimes, view police as assholes because they typically are with their holier-than-thou schpiel. im not gonna say that some police dont do great things, but i will never apologize for saying or believing that police are scum, because they are. they do the dirty work for bullshit laws. the police are essentially the way the government fucks you, up close and personal.
You're wrong man. All Cap'n was saying is that the police do help because they put this guy away. The subject of his post was not "the police helped my friend have a better life." All he was saying is that they did their job and brought solace to him, his friend, and their families. He wasn't saying the cop made his friends life better necessarily.
the point of him was saying, what good does it really do? its a false sense of security in that the guy that beat the crap out of the kid will get out sooner or later. i dont know about canada, but in the US the prison system is extremely flawed, and if the offender goes by any statistic out there, he will most likely end up in jail again
Exactly. Nothing can help my friend become "normal" again. His life is going to be more complicated then any of ours ever will just because some creep wanted to beat up a 13 year old. It's almost like everyone on this site has forgot that cops deal with waaaay more things than drugs. Cops can be dicks about other things to. Like spraypainting and skateboarding.
The guy that did it isn't coming out of jail. He had already been in jail previous times. He's a piece of shit. He won't be leaving jail until he dies. I wonder how he's doing up in Kingston right now... Hmm, everyone knows people who beat up kids get treated best by the other guys in jail.
cops are often times dicks when they dont need to be. the last thing i need when a cop pulls me over for speeding is a life talk...i dont need any advice from a GED graduate. give me the god damn ticket and fuck off. cops are fucking fags, dude - if they help out once in a while, they get major press attention, but chances are the same douchefuck po-po has busted a bunch of kids' balls for something completely non-violent and that is generally understood to not be too harmful...they are like those one kids in gradeschool that you absolutely despised because they'd suck up to the teacher but were complete fucking jackasses. so it was just unfortunate that your friend had to be his last victim. point remains - the dude is a repeat offender - his previous prison sentences didnt do shit to straighten him out - the police didn't do ANYTHING but hold back the guy a little while and then let him go again. of course government had a lot to do with it too...but i'm sure you can guess how i feel about governments
