At the age of thirty-three, I have worked so little that I still have not earned enough to earn Social Security when I retire.
Thank you for the negative rep, rollinstoned. *hugs* You're every so wonderful, especially since I have an opinion that differs from yours and you see very fit to dislike it. *blows kisses* May you forever be so open minded.
frankly, yes. there's a matter of the degree of culpability. let me give an example 1 Sudanese government sends mercenaries to exterminate civilians in Darfur 2 China gives money and arms to the Sudanese government in exchange for oil 3 Oil is used is used in the production and distribution of Chinese products 4 People around the world buy Chinese products, and the money generated by these products is the root of the genocide Now, a vast number of people buy Chinese made products. Does that mean they are complicit in genocide? Yes. The purchase of products provides the essential motive for the genocide. The folks that actually pull the trigger may have a bigger share of the responsibility, but the genocide wouldn't happen without the indirect participation of a vast number of people. As I've pointed out, those people are highly relevant. In the case of Iraq, the connections are even more direct. 1 US invades Iraq to seize oil. Lots of people die (especially Iraqis). 2 Oil is refined into a variety of products, including plastics and gasoline 3 Consumers put that gas into their vehicles and buy products made from petrochemicals. Also, the infrastructure of the US depends on oil (asphalt, fuel for delivery of goods, fuel for emergency first responders, etc). They (we) also pay taxes, a large portion of which funds the military. If people weren't consuming oil, it would have no value, and there would have been no reason to invade Iraq. If people weren't generating taxable income, there would have been no money to fund an invasion. The American consumer/taxpayer is not only relevant to the invasion of Iraq and the killing of Iraqis, but essential. I would certainly agree that the invasion of Iraq was a terrible mistake. And as I've said before, those who kill must bear their fair share of responsibility. But it is the consumer/taxpayer who is driving the process. Indirect responsibility is, nonetheless, responsibility. An American consumer/taxpayer who condemns the actions of US soldiers in Iraq is like a john who complains about the pimp while still fucking the whore. Your energies would be better spent trying to prevent future tragedies (reforming the political process, preventing people like G.W. Bush from being elected, etc.) than condemning others.
I can't even begin to describe the level of nausea I feel reading this thread. And I'm not going to give justification by replying with any kind of logical response due to the amount of shit fuck posted in this thread. All I can say is, being a military wife, this fuckin thread makes me absolutely irate.
All findable in garbage? Ok, let's say I'm going out on a date tonight, and we have plans to . . . know each other before the night it over; plus, my intended is utilizing no birth-control at all. You can't be serious!!
If someone joined the military with the express purpose of going to Afganistan to kill arabs, then yes I'd say fuck him. But I protested the Vietnam War in my youth, yet I never protested the troops themselves, and people who spat on those troops pissed me off. Protest the government that wages the war, not the soldiers who fight in it.
"War is against the teachings of the Holy Qur'an. I'm not trying to dodge the draft. We are not supposed to take part in no wars unless declared by Allah or The Messenger. We don't take part in Christian wars or wars of any unbelievers." untangle that quote if you can.
