BTW, I'm surprised at how many people in this thread had never seen this video before, thought it was pretty well known. A lot of news stations broadcasted the suicide live, and this was on a day when many children were home from school watching T.V. LOL.
One station in Philly even replayed the suicide in full during their evening newscasts without warning any of the viewers that it was graphic.

 

When I was working at the asylum we had this one guy who tried to shoot himself in the face. He always stayed in his room and only came out for dinner and mandatory vitals.
His nose was completely gone, just a hole, and he had a gaping hole in his cheek. He also had a massive hole in his throat that was constantly secreting puss, which he used his long beard to sop up routinely.
Oh, and he also had MRSA.

 

MRSA on top of it all, that sucks.

It wasn't that bad either. TopNotch's video set a very high bar of gore for me.

I don't know if anyone here is a fan of 90's alternative music, but the song "Hey Man Nice Shot" by Filter is about the Bud Dwyer incident. Many people thought it was about Cobain, but apparently Filter confirmed their intentions - it is about Dwyer. They wrote the song to acknowledge a person standing up for what he thought was right.

The Dwyer video makes me sick. I'll echo everyone else on this point: So much blood! Jesus christ!

I noticed on the Wiki page the Television in Classrooms issue, god this annoys me. It came up after September 11th, our class was the only one in our elementary that watched the TV that morning. We saw the first tower collapse. I was in 5th grade, I cried for the future, and I was scolded by the teacher, and made an example to the class of 5th graders that we should be able to emotionally handle this at that age. As if he were in denial of having just shown that to his 5th grade students... This conservative firefighter asshole, also gave a talk at a conference afterwards for parents that my mom attended, she said he was lecturing against showing things like WTC attacks on TV in class. Just wow, but really it's a recoccuring issue because it can't be helped completely, and I'm glad I saw the coverage of 9/11, I only cried out of pure simple human empathetic emotion aware of the significance of what was taking place. I was corrected for getting the sniffles though, not balling my eyes out screaming. Can't believe I was the only one in class who felt the heaviness of that. I remember being fascinated and shocked by the Columbine events too.

That this was the only real issue to come out of Bud Dwyer sucide is a god damn shame. It pains me to know what he said before, pleading to everyone in the United States to realize the needed change to the justice System. But I guess that's how the story goes, just a damn tragedy this life.
