I hear ya man. I think my generation has been long awaiting this time (Read population bomb, future shock, Silent Spring, etc. etc.) Or should I say we've been waiting for the End of Time. Hey, know where I can get one o' those sandwich boards with "The End is Near" on it? I'm thinkin' I'm gonna wear one from now on. But nobody listens anyway...
BTW, you can blame pollution as the major cause for the drastic increase in asthma cases around the world. The Earth's atmosphere is changing so rapidly humans can't adapt fast enough. We're poisoning ourselves, and we keep upping the dosage!
hey skip, where were u living in north queensland? i know north queensland coast very well so interested to know where u were staying..thoughts on the atherton tablelands and daintree areas, etc...
well, to quote the song. it's the end of the world as we know it, and i feel fine. still, in our remaining time, it would be nice to have people not polluting as much, it's quality of life, not the quantity, that counts.
i've always had a gut gnawing suspicion that tipping point of no return was reached somewhere arround between 71 and 73. if we just hadn't been throwing public transportation out with the bath water and making a god out of the automobile in the 60s we could have made it. (that and upgrading the turbines in little dams up in the hills instead of ripping them out as they aged and building more combustion powered generating plants) on the other hand, complete human extinction might not happen, just a major signifigant starve off. of course if the environment no longer supports life as we know it, then of course we're gonners along with everything else and the earth that's left looks like mars does now. worst cases don't happen any more often then best cases though. something is undiniably up, and having gotten far enough to be unignorable isn't likely to be 'reversed'. but we really don't need to keep pushing it further, which i've yet to see any end in sight to our doing. i could be mistaken about THAT and i hope i am. the good news is lots of people are buying and installing solar. the bad is that utility companies are still building and relying on combustion. that and more cars on the road, cause someone figgured forcing people to have to buy cars pumps the economy more then public transportation, and decision makers can't seem to see past little green pieces of paper to where what fills their stomics really comes from. at any rate it's pouring down outside as it has been doing ever since about the same time this thread started. glad i live on high enough ground to not have to worry about the creeks rising. =^^= .../\...
i don't see why we have to be so uppity to think our species should live forever. did the dinosaurs complain? were they remarking in snide asides that those damned massive methane producers went around denuding the trees and trampling across the perfect countryside, off the trails and crapping on public land?
Here in Ohio, we had what was considered a mild winter, but it was still too cold and snowy for my tastes. In recent years, it seems that the concept of "normal" weather is obsolete. It's not just global warming. We screwed around with the planet, and these are the consequences.
you're absolutely right of course. still i like to dream about a green world with rivers running clean and little solar/battery people sized trains winding through gardens and forrests. =^^= .../\...
ooo. neato. i always wanted to live like the Ewoks. but the world will be green and beautiful again, we just won't be here to see it. lol. you can't kill mother nature! she's a hard assed bitch! she'll kill you first!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Well this is what really pisses me off. The fact that we missed the golden opportunity of the 1970s to change all this shit. We finally became aware of man's impact upon the entire planet - a true revelation, that we promptly ignored in our greed. I too have had visions of how things could have been. Back in the 70s when I had them it was still possible to make it happen. Now they're just what might've been. The alarms were raised in time, we passed the Clean Air Act, and tons of other environmental legislation (like creating the EPA) but OUR government chose to favor big business at the expense of our environment and our health (although there have been some improvements). Now we must bear the consequences.
we had tornadoes and water soupts here in socal yesterday the solar imaging l;ooked like a hurricanne. it was unpredicted last minute....global warming is ruining my cities perfect weather!!!!!!!!!!
methane...methane comprises 20 percent of global greenhouse gasses. My mom buys all of her dairy from a farm that runs off of methane gas. it's all the people who are beef obsessed. stop eating the fucking mammamls. I love it when a hybrid person criticizes my suped v6 yet eats beef two meals a day...
yeah, fucking beef production. so lame. did my math thesis on that in college years ago. so wasteful. though i do really like the local movements of raiding beef on the lands where not much lives. the beef tastes different, like sage, not as sweet, not as fat. no injections....good stuff. though i'll take an elk or deer any day.
