When I was your age my parents never gave me money. I had to earn every dollar I got. At I am thankful now. Whenever I wanted money, before I was able to get a job, I either did chores around the house, helped my mom with something or whatever. Or helped my parents with the yard work. It taught me alot. And when I was younger, I never understood my parents or their thought processes, but as I grew older, I can totally understand now. Its amazing once you realize that they were right with things they said. I am happy that my parents never just flat out handed me money, when I was in my teens. It made me the person i am today. And it tought me so much.
And it is true when they say, you'll understand when you are older.

not always what about working and doing college/university work thats a doubler killer, a person could do it but they whouldn't be able to do a decent job of either.

That's not neccessarily true. I am a full time student, I work part-time and have two kids! I also have a 4.0 GPA. It is very possible...not easy, but possible.

It depends on the program as well as the person, some programs/courses are tougher then others and some people have problems with time managment.

my sister is curently at University of Toronto, and she's having a hard time doing both. She's not the type of person who can do 2 things at once.

For me its a little bit easier i think all be able to do both, this augest.

It is entirely possible. It is just a matter of time management.

Natz wasn't complaining about going to college and working-she was complaining about having her allowance cut off, which leads me to believe that her mom is just trying to get her off her ass. she is 16, so I doubt she is in college, and having a part time job will definitely not kill her. There are always plenty of jobs out there if you ACTIVELY seek them.

Like I said before-the 20hrs a week spent working at a part time job probably won't bring her life to a screeching halt-what else is she doing with her time? Playing on the internet? Thinking about all the ways her mom favors her siblings more than herself?

But I do actually want a job. I get soooo bored and I nearly all my friends work so I end up with nothing to do and no-one to hang out with. I am actually trying to get a job but what people including my mum don't seem to realise that there is no jobs around where I live. I am filling applications out for some supermarkets but theres even a lack of jobs there.

You guys don't realize this, THERE ARE NO JOBS FOR US!!!!!!!
There really is'nt, and I'll tell you why. About fifteen years ago, alot of the factories that held high-middle of the road type jobs for high school graduates, and management jobs for college grads, moved to mexico. Five years ago, all those factories moved to the asia, which is cheaper. So now, all the college graduate engineers are working menial work. So now all the people who used to work at these jobs, the high school graduates, are now in lower-middle of the road jobs, such as mcdonalds, or supermarkets. Do you see where I'm going with this? Now, us kids can't get those bottom feeder jobs anymore. What makes it worse is that everyone is going to college now. So now there is the college graduate, and the really smart college kids, the 4.0 yale/MIT/georgetown. So all these smart kids get the "nice jobs", the regular college grads get the "good jobs", the high school grads get the "bad jobs" and what jobs do the high school kids get? Shit! And to top it all off, because the government is dicking all these old people out of their social security, they're out hunting for jobs too! How can we contend with that? Finding a job as a kid is fucking hard. You may think we're all fucking sitting on our asses wanting to spend your money, but we're not. I do all the chores (note: all of them, everything) for my dad for a 100 dollars a month. Now that's shit out in the real world, but I do it anyways, because I can't get a real job. I think all you parents need to open your eyes a bit instead of telling us how imature we are.

No, it is'nt even a bad job. It's no job. We used to get the bad jobs, but the high school grads are getting the bad jobs. Did you even read the post? We can't get jobs.

I worked at carls jr for 6.25 for my first job. or even less. I worked at togos and baskin robings for a little bit more when min wage went up. I doubt in a whole town you cannot find a job. I know there are some run down places in America and I don't know where you live...all I am saying is if you really want something you will get it if you try hard enough. There are people where you live struggling to take care of whole families on that same situation...no good jobs. But they survive.

My first job I made $4.25/hour! lol! Anyway, not going to perpetuate the "yes there are jobs/no there isn't" argument.

Natz (and whoever else is getting hassled by the parents), how about organizing a yard sale? Ask your mom if you can get all the old crap yall don't want/need anymore and sell it. Or, just go through your stuff. Just something to let her know that you are TRYING. That way she can see you are putting an effort. How about babysitting? Or, clean your families' houses for $$? If you are especially good at math or whatever you could tutor. Or, give lessons in something.
