As to the rest, Arpaio is this jackass: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Arpaio General disgrace to america, and to arizona. Would never move to maricopa county..... It's amazing (and not in a good way) that he's being sued is CIVIL proceedings.... he's done many many many things that should literally have him locked up, wearing his own pink jail undies.....
It should also be stated that criminals use ploys too. I remember reading a news story online where rapists had a police uniform and a siren and were pulling women over, telling them to get out of their car after handcuffing them... That or the solicitor or repair person ploy....once you open that front door you've lost your best barrier of protection. Also you'd be amazed at how many college students don't lock their dorm rooms.... So I agree with Ivory here about not being overconfident in self-defense. There's also nothing you can do if the bad people have tazers either. Also women are often used to lure other women/girls into the dark underworld of human trafficking once a level of trust is established. @Ivory what was that girl's reaction after you humbled her fighting pride from the simulated kidnapping? What about that boy's reaction? This thread should be a self-defense thread now.
She was shocked. He was just angry lol. In reality they both learnt something, so I was doing my job.
Actually any kind of rapist shouldn't be sharing the same environment with us but as we may have less power to that then we focus on giving the victims extra care and show the love. The rapist should be shot or through to jail the rest of his/ her life. I have stayed with people who have been raped before but trust me, it takes carriage and much support for them to regain their self esteem.
I put this up in here before many moons ago,but---------I and my girlfriend were driving thru Colorado around midnight north of Grand Junction and a red light came on behind us, so at first I was thinking about pulling over. Something didn't feel right about it,so I kept driving untill I got to a service station and pulled right up in front in the bright light. This fuckin' dweeb pulls in behind me in a car that was definately not a cop car. Being 6'3" and a couple hundred pounds made him extremely nervous when I jumped out of my car and headed toward him. He said in a shaky voice'why didn't you stop?" I said "who in the hell are you" and got in real close. He took off. Who knows what would have happened had I stopped? I would advise women to think carefully about stopping in the dark countryside unless it's proven absolutely to be a cop. They might chew you out,but that's better than-????
If you slow down, and put on your turn signal or flashers, you can't get in trouble for driving to a lighted/public place, to protect your safety. True, you might get chewed out, but nothing bad will happen -- just make it apparrent that you're not running from them, by signal lights, hand signal, whatever.
Can you describe the make and model of that car and the guy's ethnicity? To anybody reading this, I don't recommend direct confrontations like that. He could've been packing heat. And in your situation you had a beloved passenger with you at the time.
I have a strange problem with my instincts here. I have the opposite reaction to what you describe. When I see a movement out of the corner of my eye, even if it comes from a benevolent source, I immediately react defensively. A person once put his hand on my shoulder, startling me (he was behind me) and my immediate reaction was to grab his arm and flip him over my back. I actually perform BETTER in those unexpected situations compared to a pre-planned sparring session. I have to exercise extreme self control to prevent hurting somebody if they startle me. Funny enough though, it is INCREDIBLY difficult to get me angry enough to hit somebody. In fact, I think it might be impossible to provoke me into hitting someone without either attempting to harm me, someone else, or my property.
Monkjr--No. That was '72. Yeah,he could have been packing iron, but you know--you do what you do. A guy pulled one on my #1 son not long ago and my son immediately fast-walked toward him and told him he was going to shove that gun right up his ass. The guy took off running, but I wasn't happy about this when I heard about it. Maybe runs in the family-I don't know. We do what we do.
In my area of the state (SC) there will periodically be men (or a man) that will pretend to be a cop and pull over women. At one time, there were supposedly 2 working together. It has come on the TV a number of times that if a cop tries to pull you over and you have any doubt it is a cop or if you are in a rural, isolated area, you should call 911, tell who and where you are and verify it really is a cop that is behind you. If you don't have a phone, you are advised to drive until you come to a populated, lighted area. Like you said, they may not be thrilled with you not immediately pulling over, but at least (around here) they do recognize if you don't, you could be pulling over to a world of pain and trouble. And that could be the upside.
This is still related to the rape topic...but shifting over into law and politics now. Mitt Romney is endorsing a lot of Republican candidates running for Senate that are against abortion in almost ALL cases, including rape and incest... Thoughts concerns? Do you think it'll happen if he gets elected?
Don't be concerned. Republicans have been talking tough game against abortion for years - it's just to get one issue voters on their side. They're full of shit on abortion like they're full of shit on everything else.
