I've never understood why the Oil industry has to be so corrupt and even though they are making more than ever they must still charge more then ever. Greedy bastards.
I don't think it has to do with being an American about wanting cheap gasoline. Everyone should have the right for cheap gasoline. I mean, I'm feeling it now. It's 3.07 per gallon where I live and I have to go to my dentist's today, and my dentist is a good 60 miles from me. So, that's 120 miles round trip and my mom gave me $20 for gas. I am so going to run out of gas. I have 11 gallons in my car, So, with gas being on average $3 per gallon, that's $33. This is not fair.
Oh, but I bet you really do. Americans are the guys who always figured we were special in some way. Blessed with the "greatest country on earth", this is the place where all those "immigrants" wanted to come so bad. People are STILL saying we are the best place to live.... All those horrible things like dictators, starvation, wars, etc, those only happen to someone else, right? God bless Amerika. We EXPECT to have it better, all the best stuff, everything you could want. We are the most "free" country in the world.... A country which takes what it wants. Well, we are the most SPOILED and asleep country in the world maybe. Our collective sense of entitlement is staggering. And we are collectively about to wake up to find we are stuck in a nightmare. But you knew that already didn't you?
You may find this site informative, interesting and eye opening. Tomgram: Dahr Jamail on the Missing Air War in Iraq Think of how many homes could be heated with just that one days traffic.
Its supply and demand... without it there'd be no business in the world. It has nothing at all to do with corruption. Its such simple logic, really. The more people buy gas the higher the price will rise in order to meet the demand. Gas stations don't have a limitless amount of space in which they can store gasoline; as people buy more gasoline the companies who supply the gasoline are going to have to cover the cost of shipping and refining the fuel. Its like.... it really doesn't get any more basic than that. This is elementary logic. If you want prices to come down tell everyone to stop buying it so you can be the only person in the world who gets cheap gas. This should really be the final post of this thread.
We could convert to the air powered car, drastically reducing the amount of oil we need. Google Air car. It's really fascinating and the possibilities are endless. Just solar power an air compressor and fill up your air tank.
it's at 3.30 for 87 where i live. it's really sick since they could sell it for $1 a gallon and still make MASSIVE profits
The only thing is it's availability in the US is now non existent and probably will be until the petroleum lobby suffers the same fate as the tobacconists have. The air cars have been ruled as unsafe for use in the US because their bodies are made of fiberglass. Funny isn't it that the Corvet and many other sports cars are basically fiberglass construction. But this vehicle has been listed as unsafe.
That is fairly standard - the extremely high startup costs of starting an oil company have left the industry highly concentrated/oligarchical. Whenever an industry is uncompetitive (for whatever reason), economic profit starts and prices go up. It isn't just oil, it appliest to everything. Oil just happens to be fairly price inelastic - but big changes in price still produce changes in demand. It just means the price has to get much higher before people will change the way they act - which would be a good thing. Personally, I would support throwing on a tax of another 50 cents per litre to support alternative infrastructure, alternative energy research, etc.
The fact that a limited number of companies now have control, is more because republicans have allowed for mergers and modified laws in the US so that huge conglomerates now control the flow and development. There are no longer small startups.
Trying to buy gas from a company that isn't a holding of one of the big three is like spitting against the wind and trying to keep the spit off your face. Like buying Keystone Light beer to protest against Coors...yeah right they both come from the same plant.
It isn't really government conspiracy at all... An oil-company has to produce on a large-scale to be competitive, and the startup costs are extremely high.
Bullshit! It's all about huge corporates reaping the largest profits in history. There are no startup companies because the huge conglomerates control their competition.
The only ones being truly deregulated and hung out to dry now a days are the workers. The corporations have all the protections and legislation they need to continute to reap record profits and avoid liability.
Really... So the reason you aren't starting up an oil company right now is that the government won't let you, not because you don't have the hundred million dollars it would probably take?
You should probably try to acquire that hundred million dollars before making a statement like this. Tell me, which American law states that "the common folk - you know, those smelly poor people that we in power don't care about - are not allowed to start up any kind of oil company no matter what"....? Oh that's right there isn't such a law.
Well obviously according to your brain we can't be much more than that to the illuminati who run the world, right?
I am a working person. What exactly are you? The oil coporations have such a strong lobby that if an independent were to try and break into the market it would be impossible no matter how much money they had.
