Very nice argument on this long standing discussion Okiefreak. Keep up the good work. Society will never treat all people with the respect, understanding and compassion that Jesus did - but perhaps this pocket of stiff necked religiosity can be healed. We see it happening in more and more instances today - from both churches and government.
1 Corinth 7: Now to the unmarried and to widows, I say: it is a good thing for them to remain as they are, as I do....Everyone should remain in the state in which he was called....I tell you, brothers, the time is running out. From now on, let those having wives act as not having them The first part is pretty clear, the second part is in the context of circumsicion, but Paul also sayd slavery. It is clear then that he doesn't mean physical condition only, but also societal condition (of which marriage was a part). The third part is also very clear. Heterosexuality is wrong! (well not really, but I think this helped Okie's point. On a side note: This is partially why priests within the Roman Catholic Church are celibate, with a few exceptions)
Yes I do tale it seriously; I believe it is the word of God and should be taken seriously. As for being a fundamentalist, I'm not sure many fundamentalists would call me a fundamentalist. As for frightening others, It would be interesting for me, for you to show me where I have been frightening others in this thread. For the most part all I’ve done is quote or cite scriptures for the sake of information purposes and people can do with it what they want. Idolatry yes, ritual no. I tried to let you off the hook but ok. The simple fact is you can not be a Christian if you do not believe in slavery! Why, because every Christian is to be a slave of God and of the Christ! (Romans 6:22; 1 Peter 2:16) But does the Bible approve of all slavery, No. A good example of that would be the slavery of God’s people in Egypt; the Egyptians were severely punished for their mistreatment of God’s people while in slavery to them. So although the Bible recommends slavery it does not approve of all forms and types of slavery. And that answers your question, now answer my question: show me one place in the Bible where homosexual acts are shown in even a neutral light, I won’t even ask for a good light, just a neutral light? You know what I mean; somewhere it isn’t being called an abomination or isn’t connected to rape, prostitution or the loss of the Kingdom. Again please point out where I ever said the word “homosexuality” appears in the Bible. Yes, they do but that is not the only context for heterosexuality in the Bible now is it? Unlike homosexuality, where that is it’s only context in the Bible. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) "What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom." Seems to fit the bill, "men who lie with men" seems pretty generic and straight forward to me.
Let me ask you a question; How did Jesus treat the Scribes and Pharisees who resisted his healthful teachings? Also did you know the term "stiff necked" in the Bible was used for people that refused to listen to God and continued to do what seemed good in their own eyes?
Okiefreak, I also wanted to commend you...I looked up every single scripture quoted that was supposed to "tell" us that the act of homosexuality was wrong - and I found I didn't agree with interpretation being a condemnation of homosexuality; but, decided to just keep my mouth shut and stay out of it... However, I find myself compelled to tell you that I was/am so grateful to have read your clear posting(s) explaining much of the same scripture the same way I also interpreted it. I found your explanation of the specific words of abomination and ritual quite interesting (and furthur backs up what was said pages and pages ago. ))
(2 Timothy 4:3-4) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching, but, in accord with their own desires, they will accumulate teachers for themselves to have their ears tickled; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories.
I believe I asked you as well to please show me one place in the Bible where homosexual acts are shown in even a neutral light, I won’t even ask for a good light, just a neutral light? You know what I mean; somewhere it isn’t being called an abomination or isn’t connected to rape, prostitution or the loss of the Kingdom. Still waiting on that answer.
I think I should clear some things up; I am not a Bible thumping fundamentalist; who spends his time in violent protest holding up signs against homosexuals and abortion. Bibles are not for thumping and people are pretty much going to do what they are going to do whether I hold up signs or not and besides Christians have a lot better ways to spend their time. I’m pretty much a libertarian, live and let live. But if someone tells me that they are going to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff, I’m pretty much going to try and talk them out of it but I’m not going to follow them around for the rest of my life trying to prevent it. Likewise if someone wants to be a homosexual; that is pretty much up to them, free will and all but if someone wants to be a Christian and commit homosexual acts, I feel I should at least show them the scriptures I’ve already cited in this thread. If after that if the person thinks that it is still ok and wants to try and be a Christian and commit homosexual acts then that’s between them and God. That being said, I leave you with this last thought: Do not be misled. (1 Corinthians 6:9) Peace upon you, OWB
Oh sorry, you didn't say, so I just assumed you must be talking about yourself, I mean why would someone say something like that about others without even explaining why?
Sorry to intervene, but this wise ass is telling you ole water boy that you've just admitted you are B.S. Read the sentence carefully.
Thanks but if you'll notice that: Eric von Estangen said: Bull Shit needs no explanation. To which I said: Well, I guess that means you need no explanation. (please notice that this could have two meanings) Eric von Estangen then said: Right. (meaning that whatever I meant by what I just said was true) I then said: So you admit that you are B.S. (BS=needs no explanation, you=need no explanation, thus BS=you)
