I saw the Long Beach parade. Seemed like a lot of the endorsement came from outside (i.e. Los Angeles and Orange County). It's nice to see a viable community that has its own gay population take pride to the streets. In a way, I'm somewhat glad that the Long Beach parade isn't an on-going all day streamline of madness.
It's also nice to see that straight people watched and more importantly that people felt comfortable enough to bring young children along. I wonder how many gang members have memories of their lesbian aunts or gay uncles taking them to a parade and having a good time with them without later acusation of molestations.

Hello! Just wanted to say Hi and see if anyone else here was at the gay pride festival in San Francisco? I am a straight female but my husband and I went with my brother and his boyfriend and were there for about 12 hours. Fun and crazy day....so many cool people there. I've been to the pride festival (was actually in the parade) in San Diego but the SF one blows that one away!! Just wanted to see if anybody here lives in the Bay area and went or if you have any other fun pride stories to share!

 

There was one in Boston this past Sunday... I only found out about it at about noon Sunday, so needless to say, I couldn't really go...
There's one in my town every september though, I didn't know about it until a few weeks ago, but maybe I'll go...

 

I used to live in San Francisco, and in the San Jose area (50 miles south) before that. I took in the SF pride parade on a regular basis for many years, but it started getting so commercialized that I and a lot of my friends stopped going. Also, it got really gloomy for several years after AIDS hit. I think that it was at its zany best around 1980, when a lot of people were coming out big time, AIDS had not yet hit, and commercialism was largely nonexistent. We always enjoyed the endless parties however, regardless of which year, though we cut out most of the sex right after AIDS hit until we knew enough about how to play safe.

does anyone know when the pride parades are in victoria and vancouver?

 

i found out that the parade/festival in victoria is sunday, july 2. i'm still not sure about the vancouver one though.

Thanks for the link. Since were are in hurricane recovery mode, we are only having a picnic at Washington Square Park tomorrow (6/25/06) in New Orleans.

 

i went to the pride parade and festival in victoria on sunday, it was a lot of fun!! so many good, non-judgemental vibes floating around everywhere. i'm stoked for next year!
