haha So Im messing around with TnR and everytime I make a dread with it it gets 3/4 of the way through and then stops knotting up. The root end is tightish but the tip is weak and easily seperated. Is this meant to happen? Is that where it needs to be blunted? If so, how do I do that?
I've had my dreads half a year and my tips are still loose in some places. your hair will dread all the way, but it takes time. you're giving em a head start with TnR... if the tips bother you, palmroll them when you get out of the shower.
That is def normal. The top and middle bits should be pretty tight but then you run out of enough hair and it stops knotting as nicely. You can knot it but it's time consuming and they*the tips* may just fall out after your first wash. I left most of mine alone, but the ones I did tnr are a bit thicker then the loose ones.
Great. Ok my next question is about wax. I've been reading the posts on this forum for about a week now and it seems pretty anti-wax. So I wanted to know if its really that horrible and if its worth using wax. Whats the opinion?
No wax, no way, no how. It may give you some order for a week or so, but it is impossible to get out and ends up killing your new dreads with funk....
yeah, just melt down a candle and like, rub it into your hair. it will totally make it lock up and smell really good. nice![sarcasm]
Its really that horrible and there is no point in using it. I used wax on my first set of locks, and my current locks are wax free and have locked up faster and feel cleaner than my waxed set.
good thing you wrote sarcasm on there or I would have tried that.[sarcasm]. Thanks. My other friend who had dreads once before was trying to convince me to use wax. Also, every other site talks about how good (and even neccesary) dread wax is. It's good that wax is a bad idea because otherwise I would have to order some and postpone the dreadline(see what I did there? Thats punny). So I'll stay away from wax. How bout the other products from DHHQ? My art teacher (backcombed, two years) used lock peppa' stuff and hers look great. Is that stuff worth it?
i haven't tried it personally, but the less you put on your dreads, the healthier they will be. The One thing that works best for dreads can't be bought- time. Backcomb and salt water work very well and don't cost anything...
I know I don't need it. I don't even need to TnR or backcomb or palm roll. But is it actually harmful to your hair? Does it hamper the process? Edit: Ah. Gotcha. Cool. Ill do it straight up with out them products then
When those sites are recommending the products... look to see if they are selling it as well or acting as an affiliate for the site to get a commission. Typically they are.
Yeah, if you really want to put shit in your hair, make a spray out of lemon juice and rosemary or something. or do a sea salt rinse. Much cheaper and you don't support a cause that rips people off and ruins their dreads. The only thing you should consider buying is soap.
now that's how you battle the dreadhead douchebaggery, instead of running away and threatening to never come back to the forum. good job!
notice she only had em for two years. i feel like the people that tend to fall for the product marketing do not intend on keeping their locks for a long time. use of products like wax (although i know you mentioned peppa in the above quote) won't help your locks in the long, looooooong run.
2 years is more than most people on here And he never said she cut or got rid of them. She could still be growing them after 2 years
I met a guy who started his dreads with wax and he was on year 7. They were a little tidy for my taste but they weren't awful, course he had long since stopped waxing.
