i can understand this logically, but still... ewww. maybe if it was post-SHTF because it would be a waste of necessary nutrients to discard it, but i dont think its necessary when there are still plenty of nutrient-dense foods available at the grocery store.

Oh don't feel bad at all!

Grandma #1 on my mom's side: I cried a TON, and we were prepared for her death for a year

Grandma #2 on my dad's side: Died suddenly and I never cried-

I always have felt bad about that, but Grandma #1 was simply more gangsta. She was so fiercely loyal. I remember when I was in third grade and I got in trouble for something in school (i was ALWAYS in trouble for doing some odd prank that went terribly wrong but I MEANT well), and Grandma #1 said, "I'm gonna take a gun into that school and shoot your teacher to death!" and then we laughed together! We both knew she wouldn't do it, but she always VALIDATED me, and that I was a good kid, not to feel guilty when the rest of the world and society was making me.

    Grandma #2 didn't do jack!!

But omg even if you were super close, you may just be going through a time where your mind and body is actually protecting you, letting you adjust- if she was a SUPER CLOSE figure in your life- it may be a version of trauma; just remember, there's NO RIGHT OR WRONG RESPONSE OR EMOTION- EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just BECAUSE she is a family member, you are not obligated to cry!! :)

i take death very differently than most. i fully accept it as a part of life. it is inevitable, it is irrevocable, and thats ok. we do not weep for the dead, we weep for ourselves, for our loss, for our selfishness, wanting to keep the dead alive. some of us dont need to weep. some of us weep later. its ok not to be devastated. an older person has lived their whole life, thats all any of us can hope for.

Well said. Brings to mind something I read in Children of Dune: "It is said of Muad'dib that once when he saw a weed trying to grow between two rocks, he moved one of the rocks. Later, when the weed was seen to be flourishing, he covered it with the remaining rock. "That was its fate," he explained."
