canoeing with the cree by eric severeid was written in 1935 recollecting the author and friends canoe trip in 1930.just graduated from high school the two launch their canoe at the beginning of the minnesota river near mpls-st. paul,mn.following the minnesota river to the red river of the north northward to hudson bay.excellent read for me even though i'm not a canoeist.....the other one is bury my heart at wounded knee by dee brown.very well done historical book about american history.....both these books were popular in the 60's and 70's and continue to be.

Russel Brands 'My Booky Wooky' is a good read.

After the MTV awards surely his profile has been raised somewhat, and his life has been far from boring. Worth checking out, whether you loathe the guy or not!

    if you like the beatles:
    Bob Spitz's- The Beatles
if you like the doors or jim morrison
    Stephen Davis- Jim Morrison, Life,Death,Legend.

both are extremely well researched, and the most accurate of their kind. i know the beatles biography took well over ten years of extensive digging and searching to put it all together. both books contain some rare pictures as well. they are both very long, beatles being about 850-900, jims about 700 but very engrossing.
youll be a walking beatles and jim morrison encyclopedia when you finish.

Its not out just yet, but the upcoming bio of Mark Twain, three books I understand, should be an insightful read on a very interesting American legend....Who also happens to be a distant relative of mine!...;-)

I think it depends on whose biography you are reading. favorite bios are of those individuals that interest you. it is true, some biographers do a crappy job, but usually most can deliver a decent material.
I've read over 20 biographies on Napoléon and I still can't get enough. He is my hero, has been ever since I was a kid. So my favorite biographies are of him.

Soon I'm starting on Marquis de Sade. Never read his bio before. I ordered 2 different biographies on him and I can't wait till they arrive:)

One I enjoyed is 'A Magick Life' by Martin Booth. Probably the best bio yet of Aleister Crowley.

Also 'Blake' by Peter Ackroyd - excellent bio of the english poet, painter and visionary.
