I believe that meat from the supermarket is the prime reason for "lots" of cancer out here. From the chicken to the cattle its all filled with "things to make it bigger and grow faster"(USA). However dont get me wrong raising and killing your own would be most safe imo because you probly wouldnt put hormones and all the chems in it therefore not risking the cancer possibility, mo the poster was a vegetarian and hopefully is able to find organic meat since thats what has to be eaten...best endevours

yeah except the people that produce organic meat jack the fucking prices up ridiculously and make it impossible for anyone to afford it even when they are probably using less money due to not using chemicals and bullshit.

I'd be all for organic crap if they weren't all about the profit.

People want to preach that organicness is the bees knees and so natural but when it comes down to it the animal is still in a cage, not being fairly hunted.

Not to mention if OP can't afford a few dollar bag of potatoes they aren't going to be able to afford organic meat.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing but I just don't understand not eating meat. If I could I would eat nothing but meat, cows are fucking awesome whether they are alive grazing or soaking up cheese on a sesame seed bun.

all animal rights stuff aside eating meat makes me feel like shit, kills my buzz from weed when just eating veg doesn't kill my buzz at all, makes me tired, makes my sweat smell a lot worse, is a lot more expensive than eating veg, a lot less healthy, a lot more greasy, and I find that it is a physical and mental addiction I'd rather not have.

Everyone seems to have this idea that eating should be fun, I see it as more of something that has to be done and that's about it

the article is ridiculous, as are some/most of the people in it

but the questions it raises are not, and it's not like the park slopers are reading this forum - so glad to see the neo-yups self-criticizing in newsweek

not all white people spend way too much on food, btw ;) [and not all foodies are white]

okay, i'll cut you a break

eat meat if you have to, life is basically one compromise after another

mrs wica's a meat-eater, and i like being married to her, and occasionally she gets her way at the dinner table

it's not like the turkey is gonna come back to life if you pass on a drumstick

    happy thanksgiving

Food science is very new, experts are constantly changing their recommendations. Remember when eggs were supposed to be so fucking bad for you? (cholesterol) Now they believe the benefits far out-weigh the negatives.
I'm hedging my bets by eating a wide variety of fresh food, some meat yes, but I certainly ain't going to mcdonalds or KFC or anything like that...

The reason organic meat seems so expensive is because no one sees the real cost of supermarket meat. someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure organic beef farmers don't get the kind of subsidy's the commercial cattle industry does. Also, imported meat is a big enough threat to the commercial beef market, let alone the small organic guy. It's expensive to eat organic no matter how you look at it these days...but If we don't support organic and the small local farmers, they soon will all just disappear!:(

She is not talking about vegetarian food vs. non-vegetarian food. Obviously vegetables are cheaper than meat. She is talking about vegetarian packaged edible products vs. non-vegetarian packaged edible products. The vegetarian packaged products are more expensive. If you don't eat real food, being vegetarian can be a problem.

ALRIGHT, EVERYONE! Jeez, people. I wasn't asking permission. :(

I may have gotten a false positive on my blood sugar tests, and they'll be redone soon. If I do, then this whole this was nothing but a dietary misadventure and I'll be back on my no-dead-animal diet within a week. :) Oh well, I got my first Thanksgiving turkey in a few years, so it wasn't all bad. I'll be glad to get this crap out of my system soon, though.

    Keep your collective fingers crossed.

I'm so glad you are Ok for now.

With your time issue, have you thought about once a week or once a month cooking (and freezing)?
