I read the whole bill and it looks reasonable to me.It tightens food safety regs here and abroad and encourages organic farming,as far as I can see. When DDT was banned here years ago it was shipped off to Mexico only to return in imports to us.This bill establishes inspections BEFORE food reaches our shores and in fact will determine exactly where imported food will enter subject to further inspection. If foreign companies refuse to allow OUR inspecters to check their production at the source-ie:where they are grown/raised--they will NOT be allowed in.Our food and drug administration ,like Fema, the justice department, ect, have been seriously compromised by the chimp and his money-grubbing pricks and this looks like an attempt to correct that.I did not see anything dangerous about it---just some tightening that should have always been in place. To say that organic farming or home grown food are in danger is specious. This bill requires accurate record keeping from ground to table.

it doesnt exempt the backyard garden nor does it exempt a person growing their own meat. on top of that it will put undue restrictions on those wishing to sell their excess produce at local farmers markets or produce stands.
as written its designed to put the small farm for profit operations out of business and potentially regulate backyard gardens.

i have big issues with it as written.

It didn't say anything about back yard gardening or home grown meat.

    exactly.. what it says is
it does not exempt them,it says "ANY", also it does not define "farm" which leaves that a very real possibility.

i do not trust my government one bit especially knowing the revolving door between monsanto and big agriculture and government.

like i said already. they need to make this bill a whole lot clearer than it is before i will be satisfied.

And by the way, I know about factory cotton, alfalfa, orchard, and food crop farms ,not to mention meat farms and the rest of it.I grew up in Kings county surrounded by Tulare and Fresno counties.Look 'em up.I have friends with factory farms. They whine if there's too little rain,or too much rain and when their crops fail they get BIG welfare checks from you an me with the government as the middleman.Every year there ,people get sick from farmers defoliating crops with poison ,when the same results can be obtained with salt water. Those ads showing "happy cows" from california---biggest bunch of bullshit possible.I could show you dairies there with the animals standing in shit almost to their knees and laying in it too.The stench is horrible.Crop dusters flying every day spraying poisonous crap on ALL crops including orchards. The way I see it is if this bill will make these people seek other ways of controlling pests and other maladies connected with growing/raising food products ,the better off we'll all be.I think this panic over the tightening of regulations is totally unfounded.

i have issues with government meddling. i have 15 acres,i raise all my own meat, have over 2 acres in vegetable gardens, when i have excess i take it to the local farmers market. this directly affects me as written as does the NAIS. you can assume its directed at factory farms all you want but as written that is not the case.

as such i can guarantee you, i and tens of thousands of other small time and hobby farmers will continue to monitor this legislation and insist it be rewritten to clarify its vagueness or be thrown out.

I'd like to see how many of those putting this bill forward have recieved donations from the chemical companys and/or Monsanto and the other big seed outfits.
As to the safty of our food, at least that grown here I thnink the dangers of ecoli and salmonel;a are highly overated. The degree of media attention given them reeks of scare tactics.
One thing to concider is that most of us older folk not only crawled around in the dirt at play (in my case that of barnyards), but so have our kids and grand kids. We survived! Today we are dealing with generations raised in oh so clean apartments and condos who most likely don't develop the imunities we did.

The biz of governments is selling protection!!!

I think the gov is realizing how many people are becoming self sufficient and less dependent on society, and it is they who panic from the loss of control. So naturally they attack. This whole food thing, is not only to get a bigger piece of pie, but also to make sure we, the flock, don't stray from them. They want us to "need" them.

Not to mention the massive increase in job loss... it sounds to me like they're making the US so hard to find work, people have no other choice but to join the military, and get paid from there... this way the army's increase... so does their control. Sounds like what Russia has done, and may still do so.
LOL...it also sounds like Star Wars 3, convince the good people that the huge army is for them, then when the time is right, turn on them and after the dust settles... behold... Novus Ordo Seclorum has arisen.

Oops, sorry there Chronic Tom, I stopped on Earth for a moment, I'll go back to planet XYZZY now, where there's no gov telling us how to live.

Hey don't buy Monsanto seed, and grow what you like on your own property not much they can do about it.

Stop funding Monsanto by purchasing Roundup. Live with a few weeds. Roundup is a special tonic for the red necks aroud here you can see the orange glow of weed kill every spring. If they didn't get your bucks every spring they couldn't fund their lobbbyists.

Even if it passes as written which cripplingly underfunded government agency is going to attempt to actually enforce this?

you really think money is a concern with this administration? if they want to enforce it and thus help obama create those millions of jobs he promised they will just have the fed print up a few billion more. whats another 50 billion when your budget is already 1.7 trillion in the whole?

Why go after gardeners when you can force people to purchase insurance. Lot more money and less hard work with that venture.
