The objectives of government-sponsored 'education' are to:
-Indoctrinate children into a pro-American viewpoint, especially concerning history.
-Mould people into good workers for large corporations.
=This entails giving students skills necessary to work productively, as well as getting them used to not questioning authority.
-Divert the attention of citizenry towards useless pursuits such as sports and away from the pursuit of knowledge, political discourse, etc.

First, I've seen many students in public school that aren't pro america, secondly, remember, the winner writes the history books.

A lot of the people I know from school don't work for large corporations.

Most students in my school are interested in both sports and politics.

  3. But public schools don't have an anti-american sentiment do they? So the only thing the above suggests hs that the American education system (or the way of life itself) is ineffective and unrewarding.

They work, they work good, and they are professional. They certainly aren't thinkers. Anyway, where are you from, a magical place where larger corporations don't own almost everything?

    You're very fortunate.

wow, i wish we indoctrinated our people with a super pro-america bias...closer to the opposite is true. American history sounds like this: We killed the indians. We enslaved the blacks. We have given the world only McDonalds and jerry springer.

    riight.

Why would American schools have an anti-american sentiment, it doesn't make sense, why would the schools teach its students to hate america.

I'm from Maryland, most people stay in the area, and there really aren't any big corporations withing 40 minutes, and most people aren't going to work for them.

Public education is not a plot to indoctinated kids. It started with parents wanting their children to learn the three R's.

School is not about tricking kids into reading and writing. Its an attempt to teach the children the basics.

As for indoctrination about America, if you walk into a high school and ask about George Bush or America or... you will get a variety of beliefs. They would match the opinions of the community. There would be more extreemism (youth hasn't the experience needed for moderation) but basicaly you would get a copy of the local opinions.

  7. Exactly. So why the fuck would the kids hate America unless they had a reason for it? [IMG]

    Again, you're very fortunate.

I have no doubt that kids hate america for some reasons, but, the public schools aren't going to pound it into their brains to hate america.

Holy shit, i think Huck and I might actually agree on something!

I think american public schools are shitty. I have no plans on letting my child attend. I've been in both private and public schools. Public school usually offers more elective choices, and I enjoyed law, business, and creative writing classes I would have never had in the private school i attended, but the private schools quality of education I felt was much higher. I think the teachers were able to form better relationships with students in a school that isn't so large. The better the teachers know the students the better they can teach them. Also, the teachers had a certain amount of respect I didn't see at a public school, and i think that was because the teachers and students knew eachother better. Of course, my private school had about 400 people, K-12, some private schools are still very large and may not have those same benefits.

Now, I'd never send my child to a religious school, but I definitely prefer private school over public. I will homeschool my child before sending them to a public school. They can always take elective and special interest classes at the local community college.
