I used baking soda for the first time this week and didn't rinse my hair well enough because there was loads still in there. Plus I didn't know how much to use and could have used too much. It also doesn't lather up well and didn't feel like it cleaned my hair all that well, just took away any odor that was in my hair. Granted I expect I did something wrong but I was unimpressed as a hair cleaning agent compared to Bronners. I will have to give it another go, but after washing with baking soda I had to wash like 3 days later with Bronners cause my hair was caked with the shit near the roots. Rinse very well if you decide to use it. Add several drops of the Tea Tree Oil to anything when you wash your hair. Just put enough in where it smells really good and you think there is enough for the amount of water you use. You could add it the baking soda if you use it. EDIT: Don't expect it to be an immediate fix. You really need to address the problem itself and that's your washing routine. Get it down to once a week and continue using the tee tree oil. In a couple months your hair will have adjusted and stop producing so much oil.
right. thankyou. i wanna get out of the habit of using standard, off the shelf stuff so im ganna start using baking soda etc is the idea to start washing about 3 times a week and then cut it down gradually, say over a month period?
You'll need to use it "as needed." Just monitor the hair and scalp and wash when you feel like it's time. I would expand in 2 week patterns if you can't tell by judging.
Baking soda does not lather up thats the weird thing about it. It took me a while to get used to washing without lather. That's one of the reasons why I switch between baking soda and dr bronner's. Sometimes I feel the need for some bubbles. Nevertheless I personally haven't found anything that cleans my hair better and makes it feel, and smell really fresh. I either, depending on how much time I have, pour some in a bottle with a few drops of tee tree oil or put some in a bucket and dunk my head in. Sometimes I think soaking my dreads does a better cleaning job than the shower does. Anyway If I had to do without one or the other I'd definitely go without dr bronner's rather than baking soda Obviously if you put too much in your going to have trouble getting it out, but thats just the same for what ever you use to clean your hair/dreads with....
ive been using baking soda for months now, and ive never had any build up problems. i just dissolve it in water then dump that on my head and rub it in real well in the shower. then i let it rinse out really well. every now and again ill use apple cider vinegar instead
I'm a big greaseball, too, so I feel your pain. After months of tinkering, I've found that washing every 4-5 days works well. I alternate between Avalon Organics and Neutrogena Anti-Residue. I know there are few Knotty Boy fans here, but they have a spritz that I use when things are itchy or dry, and it works quite well without making it greasy. It has a lovely smell, too.
I also have an oily-prone scalp. I find that washing twice a week is a good time frame for me. Experiment with different shampoos, baking soda, time between washings, etc. and see what works best for you. Everyone's body chemistry is different.
i dont really mind the baking soda not lathering i put some bronners on my hair with the baking soda wait a minute and rinse it it's a good combo
