Don't universities produce their own scarves in appropriate colours for their students ??? Surely its not beyond their wit to produce woolen sweaters too ???

Nuclear fission is the only alternative at the moment we have that could replace all fossil fuels

Bury them underground in a thick walled bunker until renewable energy technology is at the level we need to transition away from nuclear.

Yes well, living in the US you have lots of waste space in which to bury it, whereas here in the UK we don't have such luxury. I know, why do we make it a Trade deal, you give us the uranium rods and we give you our nuclear waste to bury ???

Suggest that natural gas is almost as cheap, and pollutes a lot less. You might also remind them that Donald Duck is about to be booted out of office and the coal companies are about to go bankrupt, so its a good idea to convert sooner than later.

However, new technology coming on the market makes coal almost as clean to burn. How cost effective it is remains to be seen, since its new technology and has not been tested in the field yet. I'd say natural gas is their best bet, since Iowa is not exactly silicon valley.

Greta Thunberg, local student climate activists team up, draw crowds in Iowa City

More than 3,000 people gathered in downtown Iowa City Friday to protest with the Climate Strikers and international climate activist Greta Thunberg Friday.

"Thank you to the organizers and the strikers who have been striking Friday after Friday. Thank you. Every one of us owe you so much. You have really done so much for every one of us," Thunberg told the crowd. "This is the real hope so many people gathering here on a weekday with so little notice. It has given hope to me."

The student-led Climate Strikers are calling for a "Town-Gown Climate Accord" between the city and the University of Iowa. The accord calls for the University of Iowa and Iowa City to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2030 and asks the university to stop burning coal at its power plant.

Before taking the stage, Thunberg was elbow-to-elbow, surrounded by her new friends, the high school-age Climate Strikers, as they walked towards the intersection of Iowa Avenue and Dubuque Street where the crowd waited.

The Iowa City Climate Strikers have been holding protests for months with varying levels of attendance and coverage. It wasn't until Tuesday afternoon that Massimo Biggers heard that Thunberg would be coming to town.

"I looked on the computer and it was Greta asking if she could join our strike this Friday, and I was like, ‘Oh my God,’ Massimo Biggers said. "I was like, 'Can I tell everybody?' And my dad was like, ‘Not yet.’"

The only person Biggers told was his friend and fellow Climate Striker Alex Howe. Howe, 14, was watching TV on Tuesday night when he got a text message:

"Greta Thunberg is coming to Iowa City," Howe said. "Don't tell anyone."

When asked where she was headed next, Thunberg chose not to say, adding only that she was on the move . whoosh!

I think I've told you this before (and it's not intended to be an insult) but I've always read your posts in Lisa Simpson's voice. :tongueclosed:
