From all reports, coal power generation in the U.K is declining as natural gas and renewables play an increasing role, and is now 5.4% Coal power generation declines in United Kingdom as natural gas, renewables grow - Today in Energy - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) Coal fired plants supply some 38% of electricity worldwide, https://www.worldcoal.org/coal/uses-coal/coal-electricity27.4% in the U.S.What is U.S. electricity generation by energy source? - FAQ - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) As for having the least pollution in the world, you must be getting that from Trump. The U.S. is the second only to China as the biggest producer of carbon dioxide, which is the culprit in climate change. Here's how US carbon pollution stacks up with the rest of the world

And are you a scientist? Me neither. All I can go on is the opinions of climate scientists. Around 97% of publishing seem to believe that human activity is responsible for a significant part of it now, despite claims to the contrary by conservative propaganda outlets.

Of course all this didn’t happen in 6000 years. More like 1,000,000,000 years and there is plenty of chemical and physical evidence to back this time frame. The cycles in the past, except those related to catastrophic asteroid impacts have all been very much longer than the recent change in our climate directly resulting from human activity. And it isn’ Just climate scientists, it’s chemists and physicists that have linked that small but significant % of CO2 to a warming atmosphere.

Its sneaky as it often gets publicized as giving you the impression its total generation

But those figures are only whats generated from UK production

UK has several big interconnecting cables with France, Norway, your country.
Doesnt include the coal and gas burned off by them

Its a pdf, but if you are interested, a better idea of how much coal they are still burning off. Page 6 of:

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...FjAAegQIBhAC&usg=AOvVaw3pIJp25hFN9wiS5Z8mpsd8

They have reduced a lot, but coal imports actually went up 17% 2017 to 2018, and in total still burning about 1/4 of the coal they were in 2000

Also the UK plan to shut down "all" coal power stations by 2025 often gets reported without the fineprint that that only applies to coal power stations that dont have CO2 capture technology

Although this "Viking Link" which you have probably heard about since it costs so much (giant DC cable between Denmark and UK) will further up the dependancy and efficiency of bird killing windmills and reduce the need for coal in that region

It's just some stuff about coal regulations from my old Environmental Policy text. Everything in the book was Obama era though, so it's not really accurate when it comes to the current administration.

I wouldn't necessarily count them out in terms of striving for sustainability. But we all have a ways to go.

EDIT: oH.. I think I thought you were talking about something else that I had said. Lol. Sorry! :)

The policy I meant had relaxed was our own. Of course everyone knows we pulled out of the climate accord. And I get the distinct impression that it's the goal of this administration to put economic prowess before environmental sustainability. Just a thought though.

No one but you or perhaps 1 or 2 other people here would post such a meme anyway. I would call out anyone who did and expected people to not understand the meaning.

Unfortunately society is not in a place to give up things that pollute. Part of this is a long term suppression of solutions in areas like solar.

I notice it's a common argument to say that if you accept global warming then you can't have anything since it all pollutes. OK, does that not also admit global warming is real and not a conspiracy? It does and you are just admitting yourself that you are not willing to give up everything too. If you truly thought it was fake there is no harm in private jets is there? I fly on my jet and it still snows so there is no warming.

I don't think you have thought this though. Your own argument admits my argument is true. Greta did not fly and she is still attacked. It's not even about the plane is it to you? It's something deeper and ignorant.

That's a pretty dumb analogy, where do you think the food you eat actually comes from? Does it grow out of the pavement down main street or something, does it?
Farming and agriculture, something you obviously take for granted, don't populate the earth with fancy roads and highways you seem to take for granted. It's done on dust, soil and mud.
My family farm doesn't stock the local butchers by driving bumper cars through the fields. It's not so much a choice to live anywhere, it's a deeply rooted tradition in our family no different to the magnitude of a lot of other farming families. Without it, you don't eat. Those big trucks don't run, you don't eat.

Oh, more fake outrage from you huh

Well here is the "meme" again, a photo without a caption

So you tell me what the meaning of me posting that was that you are calling me out on

What is offensive? Greta is white, the girl in the photo is white, so its racial profiling? Is it that I assumed her gender because she is in a dress?

unfocused really is jumping to some random far out conclusions on that one.

forget greta, i'm more interested in the background. falcore's sitting on one side, and a munchkin is standing on the other.

Nothing is "offensive" it's simply a joke made by ignorant people. I'm not sure where you find racial profiling all this other nonsense. That photo was chosen for a reason. That is shown if you look at the likes it got and compare that to the words of those posters. Clearly people with a certain view of her found that funny.

Why do you think that is? It's not historical context. It's the common alt-right meme I guess we can call it that kids are stupid today. You can find dozens of pictures that make jokes like that for young people placed in historical rough situations. The humor is in placing the millennial in a situation the meme creator finds more difficult than modern life which of course the older person had provided for the little snot.

Why is that funny to you? Is the humor in that that person looks like her? Or is the humor in the work that person is doing vs. the perceived lack of work she does?

For me it's a perceived lack of work and that's why certain people like it. It says she's a brat and they enjoy that.

So its ignorant because it puts her likeness in a situation "more difficult than modern life"

That is the soyboyest thing I have heard from you yet

On that topic what is with soy why is that bad? From my understanding its the idea that if a man eats soy he produces estrogen. If that is why you said that I see why you are so upset I know your ways. I'll just be over here with my scientific data on soy.:tonguewink:

for me, people find it funny because there's pine trees in the background. pine rhymes with wine. wine is made from grapes. grapes, when dried out, turn into raisins. the most popular brand of raisins is sun-maid. sun-maid has sun in the name. greta is pretty pale and probably burns in the sun. everyone that likes that picture is a sadistic fuck that wants greta to get skin cancer.

not too much really. just the first association that popped into my head for each thing, until something popped up that i could tie back to greta somehow.

Ok..... so kind of what I said. The humor is because you don't like her. Thanks for acknowledging that.

i don't know her. no, i don't like her, but i don't dislike her either. other than this thread i would have only the slightest idea that she even exists. all i'm saying is that you're grasping at straws in what seems to be a misguided attempt to convince everyone that this girl is under attack. i mean, she probably is, but it doesn't help to accuse every statement that isn't "greta thunberg please have my baby" as being an attack on her.
