fuck them-- People who dont feel good about themselves have to put other people down to their level. You could just embarress them right back to shut them up. Or you can choose to ignore it- I think thats your only option really. Just remember that you are better then them! You dont have to go around hurting people to get your kicks. And wear what you want to wear-

    Hey,
I know this thread is like four months old but I just had to add to it. My best friend is straight but is very tomboyish to a point where almost everyone questions her sexuality. People would say (and probably still do) that we were fucking each other, just because they see how close we are. Yeah, it got to us a lot that people were spreading these rumors (and mind you, this is AFTER high school). And I would even get depressed that my friend and I were being judged as something we aren't. I hate when people talk about others, in a way that objectifies them. The thought that these people were gossiping and calling us "dykes" made me feel like I was no longer a person but just a gossip topic. Do you know what I mean? Haha, i don't even know if that makes sense. But the main point of this post is...

    FUCK PEOPLE!

They are stupid and ignorant (well, of couse not all people). I've come to my senses (like you, peacelove...) and now don't give a fuck about what other people think or how they judge me because they don't know me. If they want to talk, let them talk, they obviously have no lives. I like being myself too.

Alright, well hang in there. And remember that you're not alone when thinking that people are stupid!!!

I've been interested in reading the Teenage Liberation Handbook for a while now. Is it widely known enough to find at a library or bookstore?

I don't know you but this sounds like you are in Highschool and if you are here is some advice. (*Remember to do this at your own risk*) When one of the girls calls you a lesbian just tell her nice and loud "NO! THANK YOU" and run down the hall like she's after you. When one of the guys calls you fat just walk up to him, smile sweetly, pat him on the shoulder, point your butt at him and say: That didn't seem to bother you last night and give your sexiest walk, stop, throw a look, and continue down the hall.
The moral of the story is school girls can be jealous morons and boys are oversexed so give them a show and tell them to blow. ;)

    ROFLMAO!!!!!!

That is really funny. I like the part about shouting NO THANK YOU.

I had a similar experience in high school. My family actually thought I was a lesbian because I didn't get pregnant in high school! (Oh, they are sooo classy!) My grandma would give me makeup and I would give it to my friend Arthur, who actually was gay.

It's funny to me that it never occured to my family that maybe I was just...Oh, I don't know.....RESPONSIBLE?

I went to a high school that had a very strict policy against harrassing gays. Gay kids would come to my school if they had been harrassed at other schools, which is good, but I felt like they tried so hard to protect gays and lesbians, that you better not even criticize a person who was gay, even for a reason having nothing to do with their sexuality, or they'd play the homophobe card.

These two girls used to follow me into the girls' bathroom, pin me against the wall against my will, and kiss me and lick my face. They were cousins. One of them was MUCH larger than me. Like a hundred pounds larger and a foot taller. They'd say, "You're a dyke. Why don't you just admit it? You know you love it." It was scary. Can you imagine if some boys did that? They'd be in serious trouble. But I didn't feel like I could report it because I didn't want to be labeled a homophobe and kicked out of that alternative school.

About 5 years later one of those girls was dating a friend of mine. He figured out that we had gone to the same high school and wanted to know all about it. I told him I did not want to get involved. After he hassled me for a couple of weeks though, saying stuff like, "How can we be friends if you keep big secrets? Why won't you tell me? If it's that bad, don't you want me to know?" I said, "Fine, I'll tell you what happened in high school, but just so you understand, I am not trying to tell you who to date and you asked."

Well, I told him a little, not everything, and the next day she calls my boyfriend's house looking for me. All she knew was that it was a white girl that he talked to. She said, "Did you tell him I was a lesbian?"

I said, "I didn't know it was a secret." She was pissed.

So.....yes, high school can totally SUCK an ogre's butt. It ends, though, believe it or not. And people will repsect you more (whether they admit it or not) if you be yourself and don't kiss ass to be accepted.

Your a lesbian if you want to be, simple as that. Some people think being gay is bad so they call other people gay. I don't like those people, and I think they are stupid. If somebody calls you a lesbian just say "Sure". I don't know why the hell I would ever go in a bar. I don't picture meeting anybody there. As far as I have heard, the "bar scence" sucks. I don't want to go into a crowded place with a bunch of stuck up bitches, a bunch of ignorant guys, smoke, alcohol, and what not. I am not saying everybody who goes to bars is like this, but that is the message I am getting from stories from the "bar scence".

I'm just curious. What do you find offensive?

If it's the way that this young woman is being treated at school, then yes, I agree, that's offensive. But if the topic offends you, well, maybe you shouldn't read it. I didn't see anything offensive.

Yeah, people always called me a lesbian at school just because I never had a boyfriend. People are frequently morons, and you can't stop them from being that. Just remember that they are morons.

I'd like to add some weight to that recommendation. Amazing book. Readable, enthusastic, fascinating, exciting, very real, and, most of all, written in a 'down-to-earth' sort of way.

    Since we're sharing name-calling stories :)
I was called a dyke by this guy and his friends when I was 15. I'm not incredibly girl all the time--comfortable clothes and all that. That guy didn't turn me on, he made fun of me, filmed me without my permission (I didn't know till later), and eventually gave me rohypnol and raped me.. I thought I must be a lesbian because he didn't turn me on.. then I met this other guy who is really nice and treats me well and I'm very sexually attracted to him.
I'm really happy that you don't care about that stuff anymore. Good for you.
