hair prior to dreads

yes pictures please!!! mine is about your length and some of my dreads are sooooo short! this is going to be a huge change. dreads and short hair.

spiralmama - It was actually really annoying because I had dreads that were only a FEW inches and hair that was closer to 30... not the most attractive look. Some of my hair was really stubborn about dreading, so rather than wait for it to dread and shrink I trimmed the long parts after about 2 years to even it out so i could finally start wearing it down without looking like a banshee. My hair is now about shoulder length all around (some of the dreads were even shorter than that but are FINALLY starting to grow). It's a looooooong and frustrating process starting with long hair, but it does start to come together if you have the patience to wait it out. I've definitely had to give up ALL vanity about my hair during this process.

 

yeah i was the same...i had hair around half way down my back and a year on my dreads at the front are just above my shoulders and at the back just below so i guess my hair didnt get that short but they've stopped shrinking and are just starting to grow out now.
your right though gaiabee, being self conscious about your hair and trying to keep it looking good all the time definitely goes out the window with the dreading process but in the end its worth ever second of your hair looking like shit. then before you know it they've tightened up and look great

alright, this is the best i could find with short hair, long hair and hair just prior to locks.

this one is pretty old, i think i was using some light gel in my hair. i shampooed and conditioned everyday

this was about a week after i stopped brushing my hair and altogether dropped traditional hair maintenance. i think it was about a day after i used bronner's for the first time.
