I usually wash mine everyday. I use styling products, so my hair can get mighty nasty if I don't wash it often.
I wash mine about every 2-3 days, but I'd like to do it less often. I have REALLY long thick hair, and it takes forever to get a lather, and a long time to dry. (in the summer, when it is humid, if I wash my hair in the morning, it is still damp in the night.) Does anyone know a good way to keep your hair clean longer? I have tried baking soda, and it worked ONCE, and then didn't again. I don't have a couple of hours a day to devote to my hair, I HATE the feeling of greasy hair, and I know people who can go many days without looking like a teenager with stringy hair. What's the secret to keeping it clean longer? I even did a Google search and came up with nothing usable.
i usually wash my hair/shower every other day...wish i could go longer, because i hate showering. does anyone else ever come out of the shower with their hair and skin feeling all rough and dry? even showering every other day, my hands are cracking from dryness and my hair feels dried out. i hate it!
I wash my hair every other day, but sometimes every day. I have baby-fine hair and it will look greasy otherwise.
I have long, tight, thick dreads, so during the winter I almost never wash it- I'd freeze my ass off for a week waiting for it to dry! I usually just try to keep it as dry as possible when I shower (yes, every day...) and only really get it soaked through to wash with Bronners a couple of times in the cold months. I make up for it during the summer though - I usually take my beads out and keep cool water in my dreads as much as possible (cold-soaked dreads and a breeze are like bulit-in AC in the summer) so I find myself soaping it a lot more often then. Word to the wise though - if you've got dreads and you wash your hair, take the beads out! It takes a long time for dreads to dry, and you don't wanna know the kind of stuff you see under a dread bead when it's been slimy for a while!
maggie, how long is long, and where does your oil collect? I rinse my tailbone length hair with apple cider vinegar (braggs really rocks but clear dead stuff will work) once every couple of weeks as part of my shampoo and condition ritual (I try for every other day because it is soooooo damn cold right now and 50 degrees in the house and wet hair is miserable) You can add EOs to the ACV for a scent. otherwise the vinegar smell dissipates in a couple hours inside, quicker outside. I get scalp to three inches of what feels and looks greasy when combed. weirdly, it is SO dry here that braided overnight, taken out and fingercombed doesn't look greasy. I like combing with my "extravagance" comb (wood, made in Hawaii by ric the Combmaker at Sierra Legacy so worth it if you have long hair) so the moment i feel grease I want to shower!
Bah, I like being dirty and greasy(well, not really) I have naturally oily hair(I've come to appreciate it though with the length) that's down to my rear. I used to wash it 3x's a week, but now I'm down to once(since I know have classes twice a week instead of everyday). I only wash it whenever I take a shower(or bath). I usually have it in a ponytail when it starts to get greasy, or else I wear it down and pretend I purposely styled it for that rockstar look, haha.
Thanks, drumminmama. My hair is almost to my butt, not quite. The oil collects ALL along the shaft, very quickly. All the way to the ends almost. I have a natural bristle brush, it doesn''t seem to help. Maybe I'll try the comb you were talking about. I'm Mediteranean, so I am pretty well endowed with oil. *Sigh* I thought maybe aging would help, but it hasn't. I am going to try the apple vinegar again. I did it a few years ago, but my hair is so thick that I smelled like I was making a salad 3 days later. LOL! I want something I can put on my hair and not have to worry about it for a week or so. Maybe that just isn't possible. I can empathise with the cold house. The first story of our house is almost 100 years old, and cold as hell. A few months ago, I was hot flashing like crazy and I closed all the vents upstairs (hoping not only to reduce the intense heat up there, but to spread the heat all over the house) but now the entire house is cold. And with a $400.00 gas bill last month, I'm not turning it up. Thanks, though, I'll try the cider vinegar again.
i wash my hair everyday. im into hair. a lot. a little tip for you people who are NEVER washing your hair... just make sure you atleased condition it once or twice a month with a deep conditioner. i know you'll take my advice...
1 a week.I dont like my hair when its so clean...it just doesnt look like my hair lolAnd it`s very dry,so i prefer not to wash it so often
I wash my hair a couple times a week. years and years ago I used to wash it every day. It is so much healthier now that I dont. I occasionally put a tiny bit of conditioner on the last couple inches of the ends of my hair. Nowhere else though.
i wash my hair when i can't stand it anymore lol. that means like every 3 days or less... it becomes too oily and i can't stand it... then i know its time for washing it.
Every 2-3 days. No point in stripping the natural oils out of my scalp, then using hair products to revitalize dry hair, no point whatsoever.
I have dreads, so I wash with Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree oil bar soap twice a month, usually. Washing my dreads is a huge ordeal...I think that's one reason why I don't like washing it. I have to do it during the day and when I don't plan on going anywhere because damp+cold=bad news and it takes a long time to dry. Sometimes two days. Washing your hair a lot isn't a very good idea, in most cases. It removes the natural oils and dries it out, even with conditioner. Even before I had dreads I would only wash my hair every few days. The longer I left my hair a bit dirty and then washed it...the better it looked... Plus all that gunk builds up on your scalp...YUCK.
