Harassment/Comments on Your Dreads

I just spent about 10 seconds trying to figure out why you edited banksy to say "keep your cows, I WANT CHANGE".

That is all.

 

I didn't edit that? Now I'm confused.

One night I looked at that picture and wondered why it said cows. This is after seeing it multiple times. Finally had to ask someone and when I heard coins I realized that I was experiencing my finest moment.

I've had mountains of alcohol tonight and I'm not sure what I'm talking about.

 

So, I've been growing my hair for the whole of 2010 and am currently sitting at about +- 8-10cm of hair on my head which I dont comb or brush but wash every other day. My friends, who I might add are quite ignorant, but I love them anyway now call me "Marley" or "Rasta Man". Some of my other friends, mostly the ladies, are intrigued by the fact that I managed to grow my hair for this long without cutting it, seeing that I used to shave my head about every two weeks when I still used to cut my hair. I get tons of support from them and they always seem to want to braid my hair.
At work, I get all sorts of comments. I've been called: curly; Bob; Lionel Ritchie; John Legend; Lenny Kravitz; Eric Benet; Afro man; etc. But I dont mind it at all. I just laugh it off and when they ask me why I'm not cutting my hair I tell them: "Chicks dig it! "
My family, cant wait for me to cut my hair. My mother is always telling me how nasty my hair looks when I go and visit. My sisters and my brother are cool with the idea. They are always calling me for updates on my hair. My daughter loves it and my wife is two minded. She loves the idea that I'll be dreading soon but she doesnt like the journey. I get asked almost weekly when I'm gna get over this phase.
The general public dont seem to notice my hair growth. Except for other dread heads. I had a lengthy conversation with some random dread head two days ago when he approached me as I was walking home from the corner cafe. He just shouted out, from behind me, "The dreads are coming along nicely now hey!". I turned around to see who it was and he jogged toward me and spoke for a while. He gave me some tips; took my hand and told me to enjoy the journey and then asked me if I wanted to share a blunt with him. He was surprised to hear that I dont do drugs.

 

Very interesting experiences lock'd. My mom thinks its cool that I'm loc'ing because she has Sisterlocks. She doesn't know its purple though.....

This is a good point. I don't like it when people I don't know touch me and people seem to like to touch. I try to avoid eye contact.

On a daily basis people walk up to my man and touch his hair in awe. It pisses him off! I get so scared when people do it cuz I dont want him yelling at people! I always have to remind him to be nice. But it is kind of weird that people would have the audacity to just walk up to someone and invade their space and touch their hair without asking permission.

 

I remember standing in a gas station check out line with my brother years ago, and two girls behind him were touching his hair.... As if he could neither feel it nor see them. He turned around and have them an evil stare and they got all scared, then he was all 'jk, you can touch'

There's a little story for ya.

People have asked me to smell and touch my hair. I had one guy draw on one with a sharpie before. He sat behind me I class.

 

That's one MAJOR thing that concerns me with pregnancy in the future. People seem to think if they're interested they can touch. I don't get it.
