and you always stomp on them with your shoe? I don't know how flies are in your country but in denmark they sit on the walls and such and a single blow with the hand may not always kill them at first... Add to that a question as to why you wear shoes inside your house? Or do you just keep them around for bug slapping...!? People like this makes me sick, they pick on other people but makes up tons of excuses to kill some other animal cause it isn't 'the same'... What a fucking lame reason... Do you think the bugs purposely bother you? Cause I don't think they do... Obviously you think you have more right to be here than they do... Congratulation, you're human... Killer...
OK, ticks are the only insects Id LOVE to kill ! Dont think its true for the US, but in some areas of Germany and Europe they can transmit a disease called FSME (to humans, not to dogs), kind of inflammation of the brain, very dangerous. Wasps I hate too, but still I dont kill them unless I cant get rid of them in another way.
I'd much rather kill a mosquito or a wasp than be bitten or stung and end up in hives or all swollen up. In the same respect, I'd sooner kill a snake than have it kill me. In this world, sometimes it's kill or be killed. It's not like I go out hunting for them, nor do I bother them if they are going about their own business, but if I feel threatened, I'm going to use my defense mechanisms, just as they would. Do humans have less rights than animals now? We're not even allowed to defend ourselves anymore because we're "more intelligent" and they "don't know any better"? Jester specifically requested we keep judgement to ourselves, I'm sure he would appreciate it if we kept it to a civil, non-judgemental discussion.
I don't make up excuses to kill one thing over another. I simply said I differentiate between animals and bugs and listed that as a reason. You should not judge me when you do not understand what I am saying just as I do not judge you for not understanding what I am saying. Take a trip into the buddhism forum and you will see more clearly that I do not wish to harm insects regardless of how and why I see them as different from insects. You're speaking words for me in your posts, and then judging me based on what you've assumed I was saying. It's unfortunate that you feel the need to be this way.
Also, lakshen, why did you choose to ignore this post and focus on the other. This one clearly states my feelings on killing insects. Did you focus on the other because it allowed you to twist the words and attempt to downgrade me?
Yup growing up in NYC we did nasty stuff to animals. It wasn't burning ants either. I'm talking really cruel and nasty stuff here. Great Thread!
Sigh-Great thread in that the topic is being addressed here. Please don't send me hate mail on the poor animals.
LOL LOL OMFG like the time I went in the vegan forum and told them to just give thanks for the veggies giving up their lives so they could be eaten my non meat eaters? I still get hate PMs over how the plants don't have any feelings. LOL My other hate PMs are about how dare I want to fuck young chicks.
I have killed two animals in my life. The first was a rabbit which had been hit by a car, it was in a real mess and was suffering very much. I took it to the side of the road and hit it over the head to ease it's passing. The second was a baby squirrel which had been mauled by cats. Three of it's legs had been chewed off and it was really suffering, so I took a rock and hit it on the head quickly. Other than that I am an animal rights activist, completely veggie and I think killing an animal is every bit as bad as killing a human.
I drank a pint of 100 proof shnapps. I left out one period. Everything was starting to run together at that point.
Never, I used to be the little girl who cried when other little kids killed lightening bugs to see the glow stuff smear on the sidewalk. My children put bugs outside, rather than kill them. I feed squirrels, then get mad at them for eating my birdseed and my cucumbers. I put water trays out for them when it hasn't rained in a while. I cried a few years ago when one of my Malamutes killed a squirrel and when one killed a baby bunny this summer. I did call my dog an "asshole" once, after she had run away for the 100th time, though.
I think putting an animal out of it's misery is different. My dh has had to put a racoon and a possum out of their misery, when one of our Malamutes mangled them. He came inside in tears and we buried the poor thing. (With the Malamute going, "HEY, where'd you two put my toy?" Mals are pretty good hunters, not that long taken from their wold ancestors, and we live in a semi rural, totally wooded area, so there are a LOT of criiter. Our Neighbors get arrested every year for "discharging firearms within County Limits" while shooting at critters.
i dunno. i just don't see anything at all unusual in the desire to kill something. we didn't get to this bizarre limbo we're in by being kind. we're the meanest, craziest, nastiest animals in the world. we do things for reasons nothing else could possibly understand because our heads, while following similar paths, have such an infinite number of inputs, barriers and freedoms that make no sense to anyone unless they have similar software kicking around in their heads. i couldn't raise a cow and kill it. it would have become a pet. but i can hunt an elk. why? just because. i can cry my eyes out when MY cat gets hit by a car, but if i hit one, i'm not gonna shed a tear, but i will feel bad for it's owner. if something dies quickly, it's a lot easier than if it suffers. why? just because. the only difference between me know and topnotch then, is age and self-control.
Do they hit the critters or are they such poor shots/ fire so many rounds the cops could get 'em for felony reckless endangerment instead? *c*
not having ever done it is typically a sign of living in a city or suburb where the only animals you see are the plastic wrapped ones in the grocery store. i find that most of the people that cry over dead gophers and squirrels and think that animals are all that great, peaceful and wonderful in the world are the ones with the least experience with them.
