Yes, Harry Potter is dangerous to the current administration and others who believe that having children who enjoy reading is a bad thing.
I don´t think that Harry Potter is dangerous, why should it be? It´s just a fantasy story like lots of others... haha
All books are dangerous if they make you think, or care, or learn something true about yourself. Harry Potter is no exception.
"Harry Potter is bad because it promotes demon worship" (basically the opponents argument paraphrased). Technically speaking, assuming Harry defeats evil in the final book, the Christians who oppose the book cannot complain because of Matthew 12:25-26. "Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand?". So assmung Harry wins and defeats evil, Harry is technically a man of god. But since Harry Potter has no intended Biblical meaning, it is pointless, but stil the argument is valid because the opponents to the books look at them as if they are real... PS-And yes, I realize that this thread is basically a joke by now
My cousins are part of some religious group, I believe they actually did burn their copies of Harry Potter....(but did they read it first is what I want to know, or did they just let JK get her royalties off buying it and then burn straight away???)
The only danger I see, is the danger posed by those who threaten to take books away from us. It is the same as taking away any freedom... Let the parents determine what their young kids can read. But ultimately... we all have the right to read what we want, or..... shall we allow ourselves to be limited to what the religious organizations have deemed appropriate?
I think it's very dangerous (more so than Mein Kampf and Necronomicon) but at least it doesn't tell kids you can walk on water or make a loaf of bread to be enough for a big crowd, just because you are the son of God.
Harry Potter is an amazing, imaginative book series, filled with references to Classical Literature and fantasy. It is no more "dangerous" than any other written material. It makes one think. And, sadly enough, some thing that is dangerous.
no they arent dangerous and the kid didnt deserve to die but it sure wasnt the smartest thing to do and if we eliminate one book because of some kids lack of reality then america is starting to fall
If you will get offended at your children enjoying a book in which magic is taught and venerated then it might be. Personally I have no problem with that. It does make me angry the way Harry is treated by his family, by his classmates and by some of the faculty. Other than that, I see nothing more dammaging than having characters you may or may not care about dying in some of the books. The best thing to do, when in doubt, IMO, is to read them either before or with your kids and discuss the concepts in the book. In this way, you can reenforce family beliefs and have a wonderful shared experience.
here is how the series ends .... Harry, Ron and Hermione enter a diner. They order Butter Beer and onion rings. Voldemort is sitting at the lunch counter, marking time. Outside, Ron’s sister, Ginny, is having a hell of a time parallel parking, even though she’s using her wand. And just then the door to the diner opens and Harry Potter looks up and—the last 11 pages of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” are freaking blank. no, I don't believe they are dangerous or they are no more dangerous than any other book
My mother is one of those that believe Harry Potter IS dangerous. BUT~she LOVES the Lord of the Rings series....hmmm....
what a wierd question! religeons (whether they pretend to be something else or not) are dangerous. illiteracy is even more so. harry potter isn't even political. =^^= .../\...
I think its all ridiculous! I can see how some people would say some music and videogames are dangerous, (not that im saying i either agree or disagree with that view) but Harry Potter??! I think the world has more important things to worry about.
I suggest you read the books and decide for yourself. That's what threatens most people. The threat of people thinking for themselves.
Of course not! The fact that anyone does scares me. What all of the books have come down to is that your choices make you the person you are, all of us make mistakes, and that loyalty, honesty, and friendship are important. Oh, and that LOVE will save you. How could that be dangerous?
Someone on a yahoo forum I belong to sent out a message with the following: Warning this book is dangerous to your kids. Don't read it. It wasn't an H.P. book btw. I wrote back that books don't scare me or my kids. Our belief system's can't be dismantled by a book, movie, vid game or music. If yours can, than, you didn't truly believe in whatever it is you believe in from the start, IMO. *shrugs* One thing I refuse to do is live my life in fear. I'm much more likely to pick up a book that someone is trying to ban than not. I want to make that decision for myself, thank you very much.
Yeah my Dad is like that. God Christians can be so freaking stupid. They really have no idea what they are talking about and how they love to pick and choose what areas of the faith they choose to follow. Whoops....off topic. The Harry Potter books are wonderfull and pose no danger whatsoever.
