If you think of the situtaion from a policeman's perspective think about how many trippers go out and commit harmful crimes, and then compare that to how many tweakers and crackheads they have to deal with everyday, or how many drunks they have to arrest, I mean they are pigs but I assume they aren't that oblivious. The worst thing somebody on acid will do is freak people out a bit, or maybe get all naked or something.
I'm not speaking in terms of the status quo. We might be currently bound by media influence and gov't propaganda, but not by nature. It's because we've relinquished control and prefer to live in ignorance. If we actually become an informed citizenry and the stewards of our own ability to perceive, then we have more influence over the gov't and the media. The founders of the country formed their philosophy around the assumption that the common people read for fun, and are thus informed. In such a climate, it is easier to maintain common cohesion and control our own gov't. But we watch tv for fun, and can be manipulated with 30 second tv ads. most people will believe what they see on tv and those who are controlling them are the ones with enough money to buy air time. The people on the losing end are basically brain dead when it comes to independent ideological strength. But the i'net is sort of a resurrection of the newness of the printing press, so who knows? maybe there's hope for us. And I think most cops just want something juicy to do. Unless they are innercity, then they have to prioritize. But cops in sheltered suburban areas indiscriminately lick their chops when it comes to any illegal substance
