Never been in trouble with the law but I know a few who have.

If you were busted with an alcohol related issue here then they do order you don't drink or be caught in places with alcohol or have it in your car.
If it was drug related they might order you don't do drugs or booze. And I believe they can check in on you here as well.
A friend who was on probation had to see his PO once a month, could be called in and he had to do some courses, every Tuesday for two months in the evening for a few hours. His was related to wife abuse so he attended a course that tought family values and some anger management. I think he paid for the course as well. His wife was not scratched or bruised but because she said he hurt her and then he got disruptive with the cops they tanked him for the night and threw all that on him. Had he left as the cop asked at first he might have had nothing on him. He did have beer on his breath but only two and that was enough to take his actions against the cop as his wife telling some truth. He paid dearly, nine months probbie, a record of possible abuse and what time and money he paid out. He still says he shoulda gone to his brother's place that night when the cop asked him to before he was tossed in the cruiser.
She is a snobby little thing with the attitude of a wild cat at any moment so I do believe he didn't hurt her, especially since no marks were found and I think he woulda walked if the cop didn't take his actions as proof he could have done what she claimed. In a way I felt bad for him but if you don't mess with the cop your chances are far better of him believing your side and letting you go.
Another I knew was my tenant, she got busted with her boyfriend's drugs in her car. She had a bracelet for nine months and had to answer her phone if her bracelet indicated she wandered off too far from the phone and detector at times she wasn't working and I think they could check with her work that she was actually there. They showed up a few times in my yard with a black SUV with big white numbers on the back. She said it was to check her equipment and inspect her apartment for drugs and stuff related to drugs.
To do anything different like go visiting someone she had to ask and if they didn't like it she had to get along with that. They were pretty stubborn to deal with once she messed up one time chasing her dog down the street because it go out of the house.

not when you're on probation. (if that is a condition of your probation).

i assumed this was the case for, at least for parole. probation might be case by case.

    i've never been on probation

I told them I rarely drink, if at all, (which is true) but they still restricted me from drinking establishments or being in possession of alcohol

No I've never been in trouble with the law and don’t ever expect to be. :2thumbsup:

It’s a good thing I wasn't around during the civil rights movement or I would have shed some blood – and not my own

Probation and house arrest seem like wildly different things.

Yuma, Arizona, at the time they had some of the most draconian drug laws in the west.

Yeah, the three years was the suspended sentence, instead they gave me the 3 yr probation... had I violated probation they could have sent me back to serve 3 yrs in the Yuma county detention facility.

In New York State, conditional discharge basically means you're discharged from probation under the condition that you don't get into trouble for a year after the date of sentencing. Otherwise they could reopen the case and give you the maximum sentence, including probation, fines, and even jail.

In the way that house arrest means they have you electronically connected to them yes, but both carry rules about alcohol and drugs. I also think probation can carry a curfew time if they think it's necessary.
One guy here lured kids to porn sites but it didn't go any further thankfully, he was on probation with rules he had to stay away from kids, schools and could not own or use any electronic devices so probation can be set up with many rules according to what your crime is. In the end they are both meant to cause you grief for what you were accused of doing.

so do you "have" to put that shit on a job application, rat? or do they only ask about felony convictions?

when i had to go to court for disorderly conduct i got an "ACD" or adjournment in contemplation of dismissal, which meant that if i didn't get in trouble for one year the charge was dropped. that was the end of 2010 though, so i'm OK to get disorderly again ;)

how long do you have left?

That scenario is about 50 years out of date. The up-to-date cause is to protect 'our people' by shedding some blood of the police as a response to them coming into Walmart to restore order when a glitch in the food stamp card caused a stampede of 350 lb welfare recipients hoarding free food.

I remember reading about that last year. If I remember correctly no one was arrested and while some people were detained Walmart didn't file any charges as long as they left their carts filled with produce in the store (including one woman with .49 cents left on her EBT card, but had $700.00 worth of food)

BTW some of the eager beavers were white and others were Hispanic

some guy honked his horn at me when i was riding my bicycle home from work. i flipped him off. he was yelling out his window at me, and swerved his car at me to cut me off. i kicked the car and asked if he was gonna fucking hit me. he put the car in park, got out and kicked my ass a little. then he got back in and drove off.

several witnesses came over, one saying that she already called the cops. i was gonna just leave and i should have. but they convinced me to file a report and they had his license plate number.

cops showed up. said they weren't gonna do anything. i said "thanks a lot" with obvious sarcasm. one of the cops said "you're welcome :)"

then i made my next mistake of the evening, and muttered under my breath "you guys are fuckin' worthless"

they turned into robo-cops "off the bike, OFF THE BIKE!"

they promptly removed me from my bike, and cuffed my hands behind my back. then they wanted to search my bag (i admitted there was a steak knife in there from cutting cheese at a work party that day), but i did not grant them permission to search it. there was potentially marijuana paraphernalia in the bag as well (grinder and papers). telling them they couldn't search really pissed them off, and then i was put in the back of the cop car.

after a ridiculous series of questions and a bit of pleading like "c'mon guys, i just got my ass kicked! can you cut me a break?" they decided to do me a "favor" and not take me to jail. they kindly let me go with a ticket for disorderly conduct. which like i said got dropped, but i had to go to court a total of three times because the system seems retarded.

i learned my lesson though. avoid the police. but if you can't do that, then don't use foul language

it seems like the cops often aren't really there to help you, more like a bunch of fuckin slackers that wanna make the easiest arrest possible and are fuckin SCARED of real criminals, heh bitches are shook

not all cops are this way but this tends to describe a lot of cops in many if not most areas of the US

Cops are so bloody bored upstate further where I used to live(my mom's town)...that they arrested someone once for tearing a branch off of a tree on main street. I thought they should all go to one of the major cities for awhile to get a reality check, at the time.

I've heard of a guy arrested for removing branches from a tree with double-barrel shotgun, sticking up a seven-eleven with a tree branch shaped like gun, and for threatening a gas station attendant with a tree branch, but never for simply tearing a branch off a tree

    Was it on public property?
