I think everyone who posted on this thread agrees lol.. I don't think I have seen one post in the entire thread where someone has gone "Yep.. Aliens are a fairy tale" LOL You would have to be pretty arrogant to think we are the only ones in the cosmic playground so to speak... I just hope that when we do make contact, that Stephen Hawking is wrong, and that they will not be hostile.... :/
I don't think you have to be arrogant for that (some are just pessimistic ). Also, I agree it is safe to assume there are some alien lifeforms on other places in the galaxy but intelligent life is really something else. If we look and comprehend how complicated our planet's conditions to support all the life as it does is it doesn't seem safe to assume for me at all that there is something similar like it in the universe at all. It is possible yes, in theory, but not sure how likely it is.
Goes back to whether or not you believe the universe is "infinite" or not. If you believe it's infinite, then the exact same conditions to make our planet with the exact same outcomes and circumstances to create life, have to exist out there. Period.. Law of probability.. Hell, if the universe is infinite, then there might be 10,000,000 Earths... With EXACTLY the same kinds of life on it, but difference being maybe they are war driven, or peaceful, or maybe they have two suns, or maybe they never developed laws... etc etc etc. :afro:
I disagree. Even if you have a planet with the same conditions or a real different planet with different conditions that might suit another for us unimaginable different lifeform it still depend on a lot to develop such a mind that uses not mainly instinct. I agree that in theory it is possible such intelligent life has developed or will develop elsewhere in the universe but not that it is out of the question that it exists or has ever existed. Yes, it could be just so that we are alone in our weirdness.
Oh, it is quite conceivable that we are unique in our genetic makeup, other intelligent life may be completely different than us. We are based on carbon for example, and other intelligent life may be based on sillicon for example. :afro:
On the infinite universe , some think that our universe is part of a multi verse , a whole bunch of universes . And there may be other dimensions . This can get one weirded out just thinking about it . There are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on all the beachs and in all the deserts on earth . The size is just hard to wrap your mind around . Some life may exest so differently we would not know it was alive . desert rat
Is there really any way to disprove aliens? You can only prove that they exist. There is no way to prove that they do not exist.
yes humans #1 most intelligent in the UNIVERSE stupid ugly fat ass aliens get out http://www.roswell-nm.gov/
Well, I just used our intelligence as a reference. I am aware what we know is likely not the limit. Just saying that from my point of view it takes a lot of right circumstances to support life, let alone intelligent life. It might not even evolve in an environment where it could due to perhaps one case of bad luck. Can you give an example?
It seems not so much a question of "Is there another planet out there capable of sustaining recognisable life forms" as much as "Do those life forms have imagination and/or curiosity". After all,it's imagination & curiosity that has led the human life form to it's current condition. From taming fire and making flints to space stations and microwave ovens. Our innate curiosity has led to amazing technology, astounding discoveries and leads us still, into investigating the furthest parts of the universe we can observe with current technology, which,as it improves, will lead us further onward. [but they STILL can't make a mobile phone I can read in direct sunlight]
I think they were talking about civilizations like the ancient Egyptians where the gods came down from the skies and they were larger than us etc etc. Pretty much every religion has the gods coming down from the skies.. So... I suppose you could argue that that insinuates that every religion was talking about "aliens" however they weren't called aliens.. They were called gods.. So.. In essence he is saying that gods are/were other aliens... I personally don't think so, because everything has to have a source right.. But then... Who knows... There are sooo many questions that we will never get the answers to... In my lifetime anyway... unless they hurry up and solve the whole mortality issue... :afro:
if this is the conclusion you pulled out of your ass about what he meant then I think that, in essence, you are a retarded person
I might get a lot of negative comments about this but I think that aliens don't exist anywhere. My reason for this is due to the epic size of the universe alongside what little we know about science and how reality works; What we once thought was sci-fi is actually science so we can't really go by what scientists say is impossible because anything can be possible imo. Given the sheer size and not knowing what we don't know to know, you'd think that if life existed then the universe would be swarming with life. At least billions/millions of these civilizations may have vested interest in earth for a multitude of possible reasons and have capability to get to Earth. Given all these variables: Size of the universe, number of advanced civs with capability of jumping galaxies in an instant (and other unimaginables), and a number of which with numerable and possibly unthinkable reasons for having vested interest, you'd think that at least one of them would have visited us and let their presence known. If the universe is so crowded then it would be crowded with advanced civilizations and we would have inevitably been swept up in all the drama that must be going on. We wouldn't be able to avoid the space opera just like how certain tribes on earth have inevitably interacted with 'advanced civilization'. If they are there, they would have found us.
Ha.. And what makes you think any religion is right? I do believe in aliens though I just had to question how reliable your belief in religions is in relevance to alien existence.
Although I think there is a possibility we are the only intelligent life in the universe I don't personally see the fact they didn't visit us as a solid argument for it. If they for instance are as technologically advanced as us or beyond that point that still doesn't mean if they're in another galaxy they could reach us, even if they have what it takes to explore their own galaxy. Yeah, he might ment that but if not I hope he clarifies :2thumbsup: By the way, do you have a mortality issue? Cause I don't think there is an issue about mortality that should be solved.
