Didn't you just say our system was reasonable? You guys consider that socialism don't you, so what's wrong with it? YI think you guys just object to goverment for the sake of it, which is weird, in europe and australia, we see the government as an entity to help it's people, not something to be scared of.
No, I said it's MORE reasonable than what they seem to want to propose here. Actually, I didn't say that, rather I alluded to it. And yes, you are right, Americans do tend to be more suspicious of government, and rightfully so, which is maybe one good thing we actually have going for us.
Errr, its still pretty dear, even with private, still 500-1000 per crown etc. Economies of scale; would still be better if a lot of it was publically funded, more dentists, less major work. But yeah still probably better off here than some other Western countries
I'm getting 4 wisdom teeth removed this tuesday, it's actual surgery, they have to cut the gum, and it's only going to cost $1,500, I get some of that back with medicare as well I think. That sounds very reasonable, in America I'm sure a procedure like that would cost upwards of $5,000 probably.
You guys are perhaps a few years ahead of us then. It was basically saying that there is a commitment to prevent healthcare being different in different areas. A "lottery" based on your "postcode." Pretty much what your problem seemed to be when you were here. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...on-ndash-a-new-future-for-the-nhs-857650.html
Crowns have nothing to do with dental hygiene, they're purely for the purpose of making people with bad teeth look less fugly. Everything you need at the dentist to stop you requiring crowns in the first place is reasonably cheap. People can also look after their teeth.
Come to the UK and have health advice rammed down your face morning noon and night? http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/zone.aspx?zonename=Health_Zone
Probably a few decades. Thats good! If they could iron out that problem it would actually be a 'good' system. I don't care what people say about taxes, I am all for the sick being taken care of while they are sick and the healthy paying for it...and vice versa at another time.
Oi! Steady now. I don't care what people say about taxes either. Based on how much their healthcare bill ends up being anyway. I guess they do get a choice how they pay: Cash or cheque.
What do you mean then? Oh and what about this talk of rationing? We were all having a nice lovely chat and then out comes the silver foil, again.
Here you go, jerks. I guess BBC is promoting conspiracy theories. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/251988.stm Health secretary admits that NHS rationing is government policy http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/extract/320/7226/10/a
Unfortunately that is the way it works and it is not always fair (not even here) but it is better than nothing. I propose the Australian system as the model to follow.
"This leads to accusations that care is being delivered by postcode since patients living under one health authority are denied a treatment available to those living under another." Ten years out of date, Rat. That's what Nice and the New constitution seek to prevent...
"Seek to prevent." Sure. There are dozens of recent articles that say the same thing. YOU do the research.
Probably would have been a good idea to get some recent articles then. I have done some research.. I even wrote something about it today. http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showpost.php?p=5814616&postcount=59 A chap who says something like: Why won't the government fund a treatment that will put a month onto my life...god they are rationing drugs. Or, why isn't the NHS funding experimental monkey gland treatment...god they are rationing treatment. I don't see that as very fair...if a patient wants a particular treatment that might add 4 minutes to his life...go pay for it himself. I imagine a self imposed "rationaing" is evident in the US system...can't pay for it...can't have it.
In the US they already mandate I pay a percentage of my wages. Its called Medicade tax. And they mandate who can receive aid. I have to pay but dont qualify for benefits. Thats fucked!.
