i think it's fair to say that Peacey (failing to find a better distinguishing name) was Sal first, since it's actaully his real name, and Sal Paradise is Sal too, cos thats his name just like Jaz is my name. Sal has been Sal for 3 or 4 years, whereas Sal has been Sal for 19, so thats 16 years longer than Sal has been Sal.

All Salman's I know shorten their names to Sal. Sal is to Salman as Tom is to Thomas....
