Well, Michael Harrington (author of "Socialism" and a few other books) was controversial too, but he did influence JFK and LBJ to institute the war on poverty, which was very different from Bush's war against anyone who isn't filthy [and] rich (like himself and bin Laden). Harrington's books, at least some of them, are OOP, but maybe a library would still have one or two of them. I got my copy of "Socialism" from one of the sellers listed on Amazon. There's always Lincoln, one of the last of the "good" Republicans. (Is that like the "good" bin Ladens?)
