And if I would have gone to the store earlier today, I MIGHT have wrecked the car, So I should never go to the store. Or if I decide to go for a walk, I might fall and break a leg, so I should stay home all the time... No wonder you think it's ok to have an entire group of organized authoritarian, armed babysitters around... You must be scared to death.
No, you just have to much faith in people. Thats like one of the cardinal rules. Don't trust anyone because everyone can fuck you over. Your world is like out of some kind of fiction book.
That's funny, 'cause I've been living it a pretty long time, and people don't seem to think I'm too far off base...(understatement) You ARE scared! Don't trust ANYONE? Wow. But you have only 18 years of experience... You must have been thru some really bad shit (or hanging with the wrong crowd)...
Well, CFCG, its December 20, your test was on the 15. How did the test go? Hopefully nothing came up!
It went good guys thank you it looks like I am on my way to becoming a cop I'll look out I promise earthmother if you are ever in CO watch your back... I will arrest you in 2.2 seconds HA HA
idk if u are a cop as long as u dont arest a 13 year old for having a dime on him annd send him to cort and have his go to juvie for 3 years (it has happend)
earthmother's right you know.... i never ever knew a cop that helped me. They were there to annoy me when i didn't do anything wrong, but when i was robbed and beaten up, they didn't even bother to show up! The idea of law enforcement these days is just utter crap...it's more threatening than it used to be. They want us all just to stand in line like all the other good boys and girls. I don't hurt people, i don't steal, i study at a fine university (never failed) and still people want to get me just because i like to smoke? It's called fascism
Personal experience for my area. Take it with a grain of salt. 'The dumb crooks get caught, the smart ones become LEOs.' Having worked as security for 2 years, I've had contact with a lot of cops, not to mention my younger years. I have no record, but not from a lack of trying (on my part, or theirs). There's a few really good ones, a few really shitty ones, and the vast majority right in the middle of the bell curve. I've found that the median are just trying to get through the day without getting shot or having to do more work than they 'have to'. CF, I hope you can make a difference in your force, But things out here aren't so cut and dried as they are in the military, or even the police academy. There's grey areas, and you'll be forced to make all kinds of value judgments that can and will ruin someone's life. There's a 16 year old, having a hard time at home, he's got an 8th. You say here that you won't bust him, but if your chief gets wind of you, YOU can get charged or disciplined. Hard choice, huh? To go by what you believe and be helpful, or cover your own backside and let some teen perp slide into JV, or possibly adult detention. Take him out of just needing to relax over the summer so he doesn't drop out and can finish school, take away his choice, give him the gift of a record, and make him more likely to be a repeat offender to solve the choice of doing your job and protecting yourself, or to uphold the duty that you'll swear to when you come out of the academy, which is to serve and protect? the choices aren't so cut and dried, and sometimes doing what is 'right' and what is 'legal' are two very different things. Beware of rigid, black and white thinking, my friend, and good luck. Earthmother - you have good points, but more flies with honey, hun. A soft word can not only turn away wrath, but it's far better to have an ally than an enemy. Yes, we have values that we all have to uphold, and I see the points of your statements. However, pragmatism can go a long way. It's part of how I've avoided having a record, is cooperating enough for the LEOs to feel that they've done their job, and not humiliating them for doing their job, but doing it in such a way that reminded them gently that I have rights, and I know how to use them. We're a younger generation, and we're learning old ways, like the celts resisting the romans. We learned from your generation, hun, but we're learning better ways than standing up and getting teargassed and beaten. Many many many of us have taken to heart the words of ruyard kipling in his verse 'Men of the Picts' Men of the Picts Ruyard Kipling Rome never heeds where she treads. Always the heavy hooves fall On our stomachs, our hearts and our heads. And Rome never heeds when we bawl. The sentries pass on, that is all. And we gather behind them in hordes, And plot to reconquer the Wall With only our tongues for our swords. We are the little folk, we. Too little to love or to hate. But leave us alone and you'll see Just how we can drag down the State. We are the worm in the wood, We are the rot at the root, We are the taint in the blood, We are the thorn in the foot! Mistletoe choking an oak, Rats gnawing cables in two, Moths making holes in a cloak, How they must love what they do. Yes, and we little folk too! We are as busy as they, Working our works out of view. But watch, and you'll see them someday. No, indeed we are not strong. But we know people who are! And we, we will guide them along To crush and destroy you in war. Yes, we have always been slaves, And, yes, we will still be their slaves. But you, you will die of the shame. And then we will dance on your graves. We are the little folk, we. Too little to love or to hate. But leave us alone and you'll see Just watch as we drag down the State.
WHAT THE FUCK!!! Why in the world did someone dig this up? Do you really think they still need to know what to do?
I have only just seen this thread and guys I'm pretty disappointed. I'm new to this forum I know, but I think instead of labeling this person as bad because they want to become a cop why not trying to persuade or show the importance of honest cops (they exist guys). Instead of calling out pig and throwing insults, try saying something to make a POSITIVE difference. The thing at the moment police are used, they are required at this point in time, instead of hating and making an enemy of what we have, why not try to improve and promote good ideals? I have had a policeman cover for me because he could see me and my friends were just having some fun on the coast. Put his job on the line to keep us out of trouble. Perhaps this is rare, I would say this is the minority. It would not be right however to hate anyone with a badge, just because of it, if we do that we are just labeling them. I think we need more well grounded police (even over here in Aus), people who are open minded enough to see the real problems in the world, violence, murders, rapes and do something about it. I'm open minded about Marijuana use, I see no problems with it, however I am against major "hard" drug rings which does ruin lives along the chain from production through to consumption. If I chose to become a cop one day These would be my beliefs still. A badge does not change that, a good person can become a cop, and i think that has to be respected.
BUT: 1. A cop who has no problem with marijuana is a HYPOCRITE. 2. Cops are well-trained to LIE. A cop who "puts his job on the line" in order to be a good guy? Think about it. What sort of job is that? 3. What KIND of person wants a job where he is EXPECTED to be a hard-assed, hypocritical, and sometimes violent individual whose bottom line is to send you directly to jail??? THINK about it.
Good points. I've been looking through the thread, and I tend to agree with your philosophy. It's awfully hard to live by these days, though.
