most likely it's illegal for small Chinese women to work here, so she had to work under the table, as you guys in Australia might say. That means that I can't get a tax rebate for her, which makes me feel a bit uneasy about it.

Canada has lots of space. We have 60 or 70 times more people per square km than you have. It's not easy here to find a spot, that is remote, where you are allowed to build a cabin and that doesn't cost insane amounts of money.
