Actually I was hoping that you might illuminate your judgment that Stephen Hawking is overrated- perhaps illuminate this thread with your spectacular brilliance so we all can be left speechlessly dazzled... otherwise you seem to be trying to provoke shit and I know someone with your intellectual fortitude isn't going to stoop to that level -eh? :)

No resume needed... just looking for why you felt that way- or perhaps the need to post that.

Your perception of my motives is redundant.

"just looking for why you felt that way- or perhaps the need to post that."

    Random Thoughts.

On topic: Yes, it is unfortunate that a man who has contributed so much to public understanding of higher scientific concepts may not be able to contribute further, but as BSR said, people die.

Off topic, but still relevant to this discussion:

I know I'm not one to hold back from a heated debate, but the volatility of some people on here astounds me

It was a thought and it was random
and no-- there's no requirement that you back it up-- it was not a demand on my part (the earlier post)... just curiosity that you are under no obligation to satisfy.
    Peace

I'm not defending what was said to Homeless Joe earlier in the thread, but I too am curious to hear some evidence based, relevant arguments. Anything to elevate this thread from the bitch-fest that it has become

We could start with the sociological. Then move onto derivatives of his work. At the end of it we will have a list of many people who deserve threads started for them, showing conceren, every time the sneeze.

Some how, someone with ALS who has been fighting a chest infection for several weeks and who has been admitted to the hospital because of it, seems to be a little bit more deserving of concern than someone who just sneezed but then again, perhaps you are of the superstitious type that still believes that the soul leaves the body when you sneeze.

No more deserving than the starving masses of <country>. I wonder how much wealth Mr. ALS gave to charity.

he had the flu, resso. at any rate, he's lived decades longer than he had hoped to when he contracted his illness. i'm not entirely certain i feel too bad about his passing when every day he had was already an incredible gift.

Actually if he did snuff it I think it'd be a shame. Not because I think he does much worthwhile.
But because he would make a useful "underling" to me...

I think the world can be quite superficial.Scientists could change that. But most of em look like total tits. Why can't they model themselves more on James Bond villains?
ie stylish clothes, hollowed volcanoes and surrounded by fit bitches?

No wonder science is in a mess.
For geniuses, most of em are fucking stupid..

But that is not what you said.

You intimated that someone who sneezed was as deserving of concern as someone with ALS who has been fighting a chest infection for several weeks and who has been admitted to the hospital because of it.

And that is what I commented on, it seems now that I’ve pointed out the absurdity of your comment, you have changed your tune.

Also, do you know something of “Mr. ALS’s” wealth and charity giving? Or are you just implying something, to cast aspersions on a person you know very little about?

I havent changed my tune at all. I didn't care about anybodies opinion, and I don't now. As for what I intimated, another take on it would be; "There are other people, in science who are indispensable".

yes but his disease normally takes people out in 3-4 years. he has gone on for 40 years....I think his time has come. He's contributed what he has contributed.

I enjoy his books but do disagree with some of his points of view.

And for those who are pretty much saying; good riddance....
