See what happens when I actually have something to do...I missed out on the action. I don't have a pic of my feet or I would post it, lol. Maybe I will get my old lady to take one tonight.
It occurs to me that Hipforums was more interesting when Bush was prez. We had more to complain about, be outraged about, laugh about (Bushisms, pretzel choking, etc.) While the world is still a fucked up place, things seem to be turning around somewhat, giving the counterculture less to counter.
Perhaps it's a case of "careful what you wish for" with an "evil" administration being expunged via ballot box but few real and substantive changes being effected- perhaps way too many expectations placed on the shoulders of the new president and supporting cast. I see plenty to counter... and if left alone replacement politicians will not counter much of anything... they'll just make speeches that lull us into believing that change is being made while it's still business as usual. Vigilance is a daily responsibility of the voter/taxpayer. Politicians are in office for their own purposes with voices and influences that will easily drown out our voice if we do not make ourselves continually heard after votes have been counted. It really boils down to the argument that by divorcing ourselves from the process we create an influence vacuum that moneyed corporate interests are more than eager to fill.
The funny thing is only the other day I interrupted a group of posters complaining about the new Hipforums and how boring it is and the newer members. And there was a good couple of threads knocking about only mere days before mentioning the same thing. You are right then, we really need to stop those idiots reposting the same threads over and over
There will always be plenty to counter, but hey, Bush was one Godawful president. Thank God he's gone, but now the counterculture is not what it was while he was leading us down the slippery slope, and I have to admit I miss that comraderie feeling of resistance. Then again, I kinda miss the 60s, though I wouldn't want to live thru Johnson or Nixon as president again.
Food for thought most definitely. I often imagine how things would have turned out had Kennedy not been shot.... or go back further... had the Great Depression- or perhaps more appropriately Hoover's (administration's) ineffectual response to it not given rise to the FDR era... tirelessly promoted by Joseph Kennedy which laid the groundwork for his family's subsequent political dynasty that blossomed long after his disgraceful descent for his fervent anti-war stance ahead of WWII...
