You guys are missing the point. George Harrison once said,"hippies are just posers and fakes." hippies are not supposed to conform, hippies don't exist.
Maybe, George is right. But I think when I grew my hair, I felt like an individual, because the environment I was in doesn't condone long hair so much, that I knew I had to make a statement. Which is another hypocricy about Catholicism. Their schools put strict fascistic rules on apperance, behavior, & so forth, yet they preach about being individuals, when they make us wear the same thing everyday, just like everybody else. And what's worse is that some kids I know in my school agree with that. ¡FUCKING ROBOTS!
Being A Hippie Isnt About How You Dress Or What Music You Like OR HOW LONG YOUR HAIR IS. Anyone Can Be A Hippie. IT ISNT ABOUT WHAT YOU DO, ITS MORE ABOUT HOW YOU THINK. YOU CAN STILL BE A HIPPIE IF YOU HAVE SHORT HAIR AND WEAR EXPENSIVE CLOTHES. AS LONG AS YOU BELIEVE IN PEACE AND LOVE, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A HIPPIE.
Its just a state of mind. If you think your a hippie you don't need to dress like one and grow your hair long, that would be conforming.
I think a true hippies is someone who considers themselves, their families, their friends, their world, their talents, and all of the bullshit that doesn't even matter. If you have a desk job, and all you do is tabulate numbers to settle accounts payable/receivable, your life must be kinda boring. I mean a real hippie would just do the things that they wanna do and not what their parents, their government, or their schools want them to do. Consider the problems with the world. In Africa, The Middle East, and Asia people are starving and suffering from diseases, because of their money-minded greedy, oppressive, governments. Especially with the war in Iraq, the still-unsettled state of Israel and Palestine, the AIDS pandemic in Africa, terrorism, nuclear weapons, and Conservatives. The problems with the world today, could be fixed only if people could look inside of themselves to see what they really want, and look out at others to think about they need.
so i guess you could say that the little asshole kid that killed 9 people in Minnesota was a hippie too since he didn't do all the things others wanted him to do?
the 60's and 70's are gone..........in the present time you can't be a real hippie if you'r not registered in the hip-forums...........
Well, I think what you are asking has more to do with appearance than anything else. The hip look, for me, is to separate me from others. I don't like labels either, but unfortunantly, they exist, and we must work with or around them. There are stereotypes about what hip folk should be. It's not about what you look like, it's about what you stand for. It's a lifestyle. Personally though, I think that it's hard to strut around advertising for some huge corporation. If you know what they stand for, most likely, you're compromising your beliefs. At least, that's my view.
Good question for just being bored, it makes you think.... you must be really sharp when you excited !!!!
