It's up your ass, non-hippie...along with your non-labels. Yes, I do have a short fuse when it comes to ignorant asshole remarks. I'll try to work on that. You don't attempt to stir debate, you attempt to deride others personally through your smirks and cynicism that you believe to be stealth. Well, it's not. It's just immature.
I find you funny, because you indeed think that you are better than me. You do have a lot of pride, and you do demonstrate alot of ignorance. Enjoy your almighty happiness within the realm of hippidom.
Yet again, you misunderstand my humour. No one can take these threads seriously because this same thread has been posted a million times. Shoud I also point out your extreme insecurity? You turn to personal attacks when you even see a hint of criticism directed towards you. Learn to take a dose of your own medicine, Libertine. I've read many of your threads on this forum... and you are the one that does not let others live in peace. I approached this thread with nothing but good nature, which you ofcourse had to interpret as an attack, shit even a personal attack, on you... such pessimism!
Being hip is a simply a state of mind that comes with a whole lotta love. That's my very broad description, for ya.
BACK TO THE SUBJECT: I think Skip best describes Hippy or Hippie on the Hippyland website. It is indeed a collection of ideas and perceptions that complete a lifestyle for someone. Not hippies are the same. The stereotype that most people place on hippie is completely their own creation. Abbie Hoffmann (for example) was a "Yippie" revolutionary who had a different set of methods to complete his vision than did Timothy Leary. Yet they both attempted to achieve some of different and better world. Leary believed you had to change the inside first, Hoffmann believed you should chance the external. Read THE POLITICS OF ECSTACY alongside REVOLUTION FOR THE HELL OF IT. Same type of visionary society...different take. Hippie is a variety... a potluck of qualities and ideas, if you will.
"Hippie" is a label given by folks who aren't. I am myself. I try to remain true to whatever that means... and the meaning does change as new observations and experiences alter how I view myself and the outside world. I'm hesitant to use an outside yardstick to measure myself by. No matter what paths I choose there will always be someone who thinks I'm wrong. That is their freedom. My opinion is that very few hippies would label themselves as such.
That's the whole thing, stinkfoot. It is that we TRY to remain true, but sometimes stray from that because we are humans who get angry or frustrated. I consider hippie a lifestyle and a state of mind and wear "the label" proudly. I am happy with who I am -- warts and all.
I think the whole thing of being a "hippie" is to contemplate peace and not let others define you. If you wish to define youself as a hippie, you should be free to do so, because self-definition is different from adhering to a stereotype.
"One thing I can tell you is you've got to be free" - The Beatles, 'Come Together' Basically sums it up for me. R.I.P. John Lennon
oh such aggressive debates about hippie labels and pride and local gods... oh man....why so serious? why so much negative expressions? why not just take it easy when someone tries to object to ya, Libertine? ...
