I think redneck must mean something different where I'm from.
Around here most people don't mean it just as a person who enjoys being out in the woods..mountains..the country, whatever.
I'm gonna go read now n get to bed so I'll respond on why I think (there's a diff in meaning) tomorrow...

 

Originally thats what redneck meant, and still means to a lot of people today, a redneck was someone who fought for the unions in the coal miner wars for equal wages, I am proud to say my great grandfather was a real redneck

I always thought the term redneck came from men who worked in the fields, because their necks would sunburn.

I always refer to people who like hunting, fishing, being in the woods as good ol' boys (or girls), and people who do all of these things but are also ignorant and possibly racist as rednecks.

 

oooh, well we have the same definition except for the racist and ignorant part, my grandfather taught me not to judge a man or woman by their skin, but by the content of their character

Yeah unfortunately I do have a few friends who make racist statements, but I am trying to change them by being a good influence, but after a while I give up on them. Its worked before with my girlfriends uncle
