I and 29,999 other people heard him say it himself in at Skydome in Toronto in May 2004. The man does not lie.

SOME people DO need to eat SOME meat SOMETIMES for health reasons. Nutritionists are not doctors either.

It is not my intention to get into a huge argument over this, I saw the post and added my comments and 2 facts. I don't judge people because of what they eat as it's not my business to do so.

    Have a nice day. :)

No idea about health reasons behind meat eating. They seem a little suspect, but hey what do I know.

My own theory (repeated for those not paying attention) is as follows:

I agree it would be petty to let this spiral into a fight.

Ummm...actually, nutritional research done by the American Dietetic Association has proven that 1)No one needs meat EVER; and 2) There are always veg alternatives.

A good doctor will send you to a nutritionist so that if you WANT a veg alternative you can have one. Obviously the Dalai Lama didn't go to a good doctor. Doctors study medicine, not nutrition. A good doctor knows that a truly dedicated veg won't go back to meat. A good doctor also knows when to admit that they don't know what they are talking about.

You know what you're talking about and so do I. It's suspect because its not true. Research done by nutrtional scientists has proven that no one ever needs meat for any reason. However, people like to believe myths for as long as possible because in general people hate to be wrong. It's our egos.

I didn't say you made it up. I'm sure he does eat chicken. And everyone, everyone, lies at some stage. Yes, even the Dalia Lama

Facts to back this up please?

    ^Exactly.

I would also like to know where she came up with the "some people need meat" when the research has proved the exact opposite.

I told you I don't judge people for what they eat as it is not my business to do so. Putting other people and their ways down just to prove that your way is the right way does nothing but weaken the point you are trying to make. It is also true that those that wish to see will and those that don't, won't. To each his own. I don't care what's on your plate, I care what's in your heart.

Most reports and studies are not worth the paper they are printed on 5 minutes after they are published.

    Have a nice day :)

*appludes* Well said, I totally agree. :)

This reminds me of a phrase; something to do with pots, kettles and the colour black.

I really don't put much faith in studies. There are bound to be some lurking around that cotradict them anyway, and the meanings/findings are so easy to twist it's hard to discover the truth.

Nor would I have to arrogance to assume I was an authority of health matter. Certainly not compared with someone who studied the subject for years. We know what we know, nothing wrong with that. After all it sees us though. But it really isn't everything.

All I'm going to say is that the scientific facts speak for themselves. If you click on the link in my profile, you will see what I'm talking about. The ADA information is actually a summary (for lack of a better word) of 44 different studies done to prover the nutritional facts of the vegetarian/vegan diet. All these studies did was gather facts, period. I would never trust a study that wasn't scientifically proven facts. They never say that one diet is better than another. They simply state the fact that 1)Anyone of any age and stage of life can be vegetarian/vegan if they choose to; and 2)There is a veg alternative for everything if that is how you choose to eat.

When did I say you judged people for what they ate? And I didn't put anyone down, I asked a simple question. Why would someone eat chicken if they were sick?

Sorry, you're right. I should not have phrased that the way I did. I should have posted 'I said...' not 'I told you...' Sorry about that.

As for your question, I have no idea, I am not a doctor and could only guess at the reason.

How nice. At least I'm a happy idiot ;)

Isn't it funny how in a thread about the Dalai Lama there is a note of one way is the right way and the only way. Something His Holiness himself would never force. At the end of his speech in Toronto he said something along the lines of ... If you liked what I said, thank you, if not, forget about it, and then he grinned...

No one is saying its not a choice. The American Dietetic Association deals in facts, which is why they never say one diet is better than the other. The research simply points to 2 facts...1)Anyone of any age or stage of life can be vegan if that's what they CHOOSE; and 2)If you are vegan there is always a veg alternative for you. A truly dedicated veg would never go back to meat, nor should they need to.

And once again, a good doctor would send you to a nutritionist if they had a concern about your diet and you wanted to stay veg. Obviously the Dalai Lama's doctor did that wrong. If anyone is an idiot...it's his doctor. So, I'm sorry I called you one. It's not your fault.

I sincerely doubt that the Dalai Lama would have eaten chicken if he knew of the veg alternatives.

    Apology accepted. :)

Perhaps if you are so concerned with the diet of His Holiness you should write him and explain the alternatives.

    LOL you've been rumbled Doll.

Lets just agree to disagree. Well actually we can meet half way. I agree with most of what you are saying, the fundamental ideals at least. It is just very irritating to have that rammed down our throats. Just chill out a bit.

Saying the same thing over and over doesn't make it more believable. It just turns people off and they won't listen. At least that's how it is for me.
