The answer lies in changing minds. I see the minimalist movement combined with technology as a possible solution in the future. Think Steve Jobs. He had nothing in his apartment except a lamp for light. I can invision a technological thoreauvian permaculturalist society.
A lamp for light and the souls of chinese workers driven to suicide a result of his business practices.
I wonder what he had, or would have had, were he still alive, in the 260' yacht, the Venus? A minimalist? I do agree that an uncluttered environment is the ideal environment allowing one to concentrate.
Jimmy I agree we need to get working together as a global community; the problem is that as with the aftermath of the financial crisis of 1928 what we are seeing is the rise of right wing nationalism or isolationism in the politics of many countries.
No , not enough nationalism ; or isolationism. The end result of global socialism is to elavate lagging nations to a degree of success. All to often , at the expense of the successful. A bad deal for producers.
Rip Once again clueless. The problem is that the US doesn’t export it has a huge trade deficit – Trade deficit 1960 – Trade surplus of 3.5 billion 2008 – Trade deficit of 690 billion (The last time the US posted a trade surplus was in 1975) And ‘free market’ thinking and polices have helped hollowed out American manufacturing Decline in manufacturing 1965 - Manufacturing accounted for 53% of the US’s economy. 2004 – It accounted for 9% The Economist (10/1/2005) stated: “For the first time since the industrial revolution, fewer than 10% of American workers are now employed in manufacturing.” http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=453435&page=130
Unlike euros , balbus , I meant people who produce. LOL. That idea seems very "foreign" to you , I realize. LOL. Back to the hammock!!!!!! Again , we drasticaaly need to divorce ourselves from global socialism and isolate for the sake of American progeny. Can we just let the slackers slide into their abyss?
One laugh out loud in a paragraph is ok two and you start coming across a simply deranged. The problem is the American people don’t seem to producing in a sustainable way, as explained many times the neo-liberal/free market ideology that has dominated in the US for some years has been good for the short term interests of wealth but not that of the middle and lower classes and has been very detrimental to the long term economic sustainability of the US.
We could ask you the same when you ramble about euros. You seem to think you know the world but people from other parts can't know shit about America because they're not from there... Typical
LOL. Again , agree to disagree. You are living proof that my idea of isolationism , works best. Seriously , I subscribe to a life of accepting very little authority. I question what I do have to accept. Good for an American. A fatal philosophy for a euro.
Isolationism doesn't mean putting your head in the sand and ignoring everyone else's views and opinions.
Buy into what? Nobody is forcing you to believe anything, but how can you possibly be confident that your beliefs are correct if you aren't aware of what the other options are?
Oh, eggs , I'm very much aware of the "other" side. How could one miss obvious global islamo-socialism?
