The only cool thing to come out of Home Depot.

The ex works there. I bought him one of these for Christmas many moons ago.

I don't think I've ever been to a Home Depot store. But that isn't really all that surprising to me. There is a super Wal-mart in my town and I've never been there either. But there is a small, locally owned hardware store a few blocks away. I usually go there and if they don't have what I need...there is another larger store across town that is an Ace hardware and the guy who owns it owns 5 other stores in the general area of the state. So...not quite as local but still not nearly as big as the box stores. Almost all Ace stores are locally-owned franchises. I think Ace only owns a handful of stores (maybe 6 or 7).

And I realize that I may spend a few bucks more at the local place but I don't give a shit. An item could be $10 at Wal-mart or Lowes, etc. and $20 at the local place and I wouldn't even know because I just bought it at the local place. I have no idea how much the larger places charge and I don't care.

And I'll tell you something else about the local place...I know the owners and employees. They know me by name. Our kids have been involved in activities together. We're mutually involved in other things. When I'm working on my front porch and looking for an item....they know what my project looks like because they know where I live. They've been past my house many times and they may even give me a call if they think of a better solution. How can you beat that?

Nope, George is right. Loss prevention 101, make your presence known to the customer.

boy, have I got some stories about this crap, like the guy whole stole a tube of Astroglide and as I was trying to get him in the parking lot he turned and screamed "I have a gun, I'll use it!"
    seriously, over jack-off juice?
or the time I followed two HUGE biker types out of the store and told them to give me back the wine they stole.
dude took out the bottle, drank it in one gulp, smashed the bottle at my feet and said,"there ya go" I said "thank you".

or the guy who downed a 12 oz bottle of RobitussinDM while loss prevention guy, manager and myself watched. He was completely hallucinating by the time we got him to the office.

or the skanky hag who pleaded to let her go and she would give all 4 of us blow jobs.

or the lady we had to follow around with a can of Glade air freshener she smelled so bad, BUT she was the queen of Englands sister but it was a big secret, so SHHH!

I could ramble on and on with crazy store stories.......

I don't know, I worked in a hardware store long ago, they never asked me to follow people around in case they were stealing stuff.

Chasing bikers and what-not out in the parking lot? Seems a little above and beyond the call of duty if you are not the store detective.
They certainly didn't pay me enough for that shit. Why not get their plate and description and leave it to the cops?

I can't wait for Home Cheapo to open today. As soon as they do I'm gonna bounce over there and get one of these babies...

If any of you have ever had to use a set tool and a hammer on drop in anchors all day, you'll know why I want one so bad.

A year ago they went for 100+ dollars at a supply house. I'll be getting mine for $29.99 at Home Cheapo.

The guys at work will be all over me if they see it, wanting to borrow it. I'll be like.. Nope. Not unless they give me their drivers license or something to make sure I get it back.

BTW, I searched on-line for it and found no mom and pop stores advertising this tool.

Also, I've been at Home Depot a few times with an orange work shirt on and been asked if I work there, lol. I said no, but tried to help them if I could anyway.

The way to avoid the so-called greeter is to enter Home Depot through the exit doors which open automatically.

There are usually a dozen carts scattered around the parking lot so you can avoid the entrance entirely.

We always use the contractors entrance and checkout at Lowe's. Parking is better and there are less people who don't know what they want.

Maybe it varies from store to store. The Home Depot right near me is really great for service and I go there often for things that I need to get. I have had great service from the staff and the couple of times someone was not sure they found me someone in that section that could help me.

I spend at that store because I have been satisfied with the products and the service.

A few years ago, I was preparing to put new siding on my house and rebuild my front porch. I talked to different people I knew just to hear about their experiences. Then I met a customer who was siding her house and asked her about it. She told me she went to a lumberyard/hardware place a couple of towns over from me and that they were the cheapest. I was happy that it was a locally owned place but skeptical. The color we wanted only came in the thicker, higher end, more expensive siding. I called and got a price from them and then shopped around. They were much cheaper than anyone else. They blew Lowe's out of the water. The guy at Lowe's didn't believe me when I told him that I could get top grade siding at that place for cheaper than Lowe's was selling their generic, thin stuff. I dealt with one of the owners of the store throughout my entire project. He was quite helpful in advising me on things I wasn't sure of about installation and never seemed like he was in a hurry to get off the phone. They even delivered for free from 36 miles away every time I needed something....even if it was something small. So ever since then, whenever I've needed construction materials...I just call them and don't even bother calling anyone else for a price. Their service is stellar.

They used to be called ironmongers. Galvanised bins of nails that were sold by weight instead of bubble packs. The smaller shops are al right for tools but do not have the quantities I am after like box of 1000 plasterboard screws.
