uhh.......... all catholics adopted the holiday...... they pretty much took it over to combat the pagan celebration, samhain...... just like xmas and easter too..... it was created by the catholic religion to keep people from celebrating pagan holidays.
I mean, if Halloween was actually "sacred" like Chritmas, stores closed and shit, you think these people wouldn't mind?
why does it surprise you?? I went to catholic school, and we all got to dress up on halloween, and bob for apples, and do arts and crafts, and anything like a normal kid on halloween would do..... crazy thing is, though, that the pastor just recently tried to get people to protest harry potter books and movies, because it promotes witchcraft.
there are masses said on halloween (all soul's eve) and on all saints day (nov 1)..... thats how sacred it gets...... its still pretty much a sacred holiday, I would say.....even if stores dont close and shit...... stores close on thanxgiving, and that has nothing to do with the church.......
some people would... seems like more and more people are just taking their kids to the malls for halloween. I was highly disappointed, we only got 14 trick or treaters this year, it sucks. We have bowls and bowls of candy left over. If the malls/stores were closed for the holiday, they'd have to take their kids around outside instead, which would be lovely for me
my little sis got taken to the mall this year and we didn't buy any candy for trick or treaters... it seems like halloween's getting celebrated less and less... or maybe it's just my family because we used to be really into it, have a party every year and get into elaborate costumes.. we still decorated a bit this year, but no jack-o-lanterns and no costumes. i didn't make any plans so i'm home feeling kinda losery.
I think Halloween is just changing focus from the happy trick-or-treater to the wasted young adult. On the radio today, they said that more beer is sold on Halloween than St Patrick's Day. This year, so many people I know used Halloween as an excuse to get fucked up. But the ones with kids went trick or treating with them.
i usually use saturdays as a reason to get fucked up. halloween is just a reason to get dressed up in a freaky costume. since halloween just happened to fall near a saturday, i decided to get dressed up AND fucked up
who goes trick-or-treating at a fucking mall!!!!???? wtf is that? if i'd been taking to a mall for trick-or-treating, i'd punch my parents in the throat. yea, thats right, i said it, i'd punch them in the throat...i remember being 10-years old, with my friends running around the neighborhood getting candy all night.
I got no trick or treaters, they all went to the mall...so I ate the candy... I too also remember just being able to go run around alone, now I realize how unsafe that was maybe my parents wanted me to get taken...
Well, Its tuesday morning. I had about 10-15 trick or treaters last night. Then I smoked some overpriced marijuana and watched BBC America for a while and went to bed. The rumor has it that there are several orgies in my (quite liberal) town on halloween but alas, I failed to get an invite. oh well, at least I didn't have to share my weed
