Dubstep has absolutely killed the energy of the party at every event I've seen it at. The shit is terrible live, I'd be willing to see Bassnectar or some other act maybe at a larger venue but for smaller parties dubstep is absolute garbage and as P0ly said it's not EDM. I don't care if it has it's own parties or whatever but I hate seeing the shit played alongside house and even Psytrance. On the other hand good house music can create an amazing feeling with everyone dancing and just on a different level throughout the night, House music can be truly remarkable. Jimmydean needs to go to some better raves
WTH is the difference between a show and a party?! There was a local rig at a club and they played dubstep all night, oh and get this I WAS ACTUALLY OPEN MINDED TOWARDS DUBSTEP AT THIS POINT AND LISTENED TO IT AND GUESS WHAT, IT WAS THE WORST DANCE MUSIC EVER! Best part is when they briefly put on a Jungle tune for 2 mins, i was able to dance then dubstep came back on, fail. I won't go into my other Dubstep encounters but i hope the festivals i go to this year don't have much of it (or any) I did try to like Dubstep, i listened to so much and truly believed there must be some i like... it didn't go to well and now i just really dislike the stuff.
Oh i also made a couple of Dubstep mixes about 2 years ago as well... Do you DJ or produce music Jimmy?
i dont but I am friends with a few of the bigger names in minnesota and the people who put on the shows in minneapolis. i guess people just get down in a totally different way in minneapolis
and a show is like going to a concert where you buy a ticket see an artist. a party is just going to a party.
when i say show i am referring to a a show as a concert and a party as a group of friends partying...how can you argue with that?
So if you pay for a ticket then it's no longer a party it's a show. it's a party, i think you do live on a different planet
Going to see an established artist DJ is a load of poo IMO anyway, though a house dj who does impress me live is Deadmau5 who mixes his own tune and remixes them live with grooveboxes etc is impressive rather than some dubstep mug playing other peoples tunes and not doing anything very talented. DJing is pretty unimpressive to pay money for i'd much rather see a proper live electronic artist any old mug can learn to beatmatch other peoples tunes. Don't get me wrong i love DJing it's really fun but it's nothing special.
have you heard of eoto!?!?!?! they have a live drumset and create the music live and improvised each show (concert)... also, someone asked was meant when a show was being discussed vs. a party so i established the definitions i intended to make what people were saying more clear if you play this stuff at a party(a bunch of people at your buddy's place) of an ipod it will suck. if you see them live at a show(concert) it will blow your mind
Montreal loves dubstep. :sunny: It's getting more and more popular here, playing in bars, clubs, raves, on the radio, etc. It's awesome, extremely creative, agressive and heavy, I totally love it. I disagree with people saying it's not EDM, it's very danceable. I help my man sometimes when he DJs and when we put a dubstep track the dancefloor automatically gets full and people go crazy on it. It has a vibe a bit like reggae or hip-hop and I love to bust some moves on it. It mixes well with psy-trance, breakcore and such, those genres are often played together at parties here and they blend well. Watch out! Someday, it'll be more popular than house. It's already pushing it slowly but surely out of the map. The golden age of house was around 2004-2005, it was great back then but since it became redundant. I still love old-school house, 80-90's stuff for the most part, but the new stuff doesn't catch my interest at all.
That's not even dubstep, that's part of the problem half the people who get behind dubstep don't even know what it is. I heard someone refer to Infected Mushroom as dubstep, I pretty much wanted to throw them through the glass window they were standing in front of. A rave that is at a warehouse or secluded location is usually referred to as a party. It often involves purchasing a ticket, getting a wrist band etc. We're not referring to parties where you get together in like high school when the parents aren't home or something.
Yes people are dumb and don't even have a clue what classifies a genre. So many times a breaks track has been on which sounds a little dirty and people say 'It's Dubstep'. Here's a Dirty Breaks tune, much better than Dubstep IMO actually rolls and is a good BPM. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKCc8-raUGQ"]YouTube - Far Too Loud - Bass Association (Original Mix) Dubstep going to get more popular then House? To be honest it wouldn't even surprise me Rihanna is more popular then house and she's fucking crap so why could Dubstep not get more popular. I think people see Dubstep as a cool thing to cling onto unlike House. If House had a cooler name like Beatstep and Dubstep had a name like Home I bet people would view it differently seeing how thick most people are :2thumbsup:
If you wanna see more of a poll go and look at the most popular electronic music download site 'Beatport'. The top 10 is rarely ever anything other than Electro House/Prog House/Deep House/Tech House, and a fair few Breaks/Minimal/Techno tracks make it in there. They have top 10 of a lot of genres as well, well worth checking out for brand new EDM.
popularity is not a valid argument for how good music is as ive stated before, by that logic top 40 is the best music hands down. also eoto uses a dubstep beat quite often if you watch their whole set
According to their bio they also play house as well so they must be uber cool Nah that sounded alright but pretty much like standard jamtronica, aren't some of Eoto members from String Cheese Incident?
