Every abstract concept we have spawned from our own human minds. This does not mean there can't be something like a god. I believe God is nothing like most people imagine it to be though and nobody knows him for sure. What sounds ultimately ridicilous to me I'm afraid is those people that claim to have a relationship with God. I strongly BELIEVE (don't know shit) there's something I could call God. I try not to project serious human emotions or feelings on God though.. seems unlikely that he has much in common with us mammals.
Loving. And yes, but like Pressed_Ray said, that's just the religions, pretending like their will is God's will. I would replace the word "humankind" with "the multiverse", and there is a lot of stuff in that "etc" but yeah, basically. Any entity with the slightest hint of divinity in it would use a bum gun, of course. So much cleaner than paper! And we all know cleanliness is next to godliness, especially anal cleanliness.
Jesus said: "If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." http://www.biblestudytools.com/john/14.html
I guess you'll have to read up on him a bit. Pick and choose what you believe from the writings about him is all I can say..
I personally only believe that he existed and was human. I guess that makes it also hard to believe you can know God when you knew this guy or read up on what are supposed to be his words.
I choose to look at it like many of the native Americans. Where "God" is not personified, but refered to as 'the Great Spirit.' And I agree with everything Pressed Rat said.
